Hello, i have a 93 525 24v which has the comedy clonky wipers fitted, how hard/expensive is the rack to replace?
also the wipers will sometimes only work on top speed (mmmm exiting) i'm thinking this would be the switch on the stalk, any other ideas?

finally, the front shocks are getting soft and i want to lower the car, but i dont want to sacrifice too much ride quality, any suggestions about makes and prices of decent suspension or should i go the bmw shocks and lowering springs route? (notices gsf are doing sport standard shocks?????) and yes i'll be fitting big wheels when i get the cash too...
cheers folks, Flash

would the motor make the wiper arms hit the bonnet? i noticed play in the mechanisim (you can move the spindles slightly) which is why i was thinking it was the rack

At the beggining of the wiper arm there is a bit of plastic which can be flicked up with a screwdriver, If you flip this up you will see a bolt that tightens the wiper arm down. This can become loose which makes for interesting wiping actions. Check this, if loose, firstly allign arm to correct position and then tighten. I would do this first before changing motors as it's a five min job and costs nothing. This is probable why the wiper is hitting the bonnet. We had the same proble with our five, and the bolt finally gave up when the blade and arm came off in some wet weather. The motor was turning, but the blade was not moving. After 5 mins of getting soaked the problem was obvious and the bolt was tightened and 5 years later we have not had a problem again.

the drivers side wiper decided to do the stopping completely thing at 70ish in proper rain today....
so thats tightened now.
the passenger wiper still hits the bonnet, and they still only work on top speed half the time, could this be a relay? if so which one?
cheers, Flash

Sounds to me like they are out of adjustment and they need undoing and setting and then re tightening. I think you should go and have a chat with a specialist on this one

Is your speedo acting up? Mine is, and when it refuses to move at all the wipers respond by doing their stationary-vehicle trick. Incidentally chaps, I've checked the sender at the diff and it looks totally clean and dry etc. Are there figures for its output, so I can check it's working? Not that I fancy crawling under a speeding beemer, but needs must
