still have one of those engines here in the garage out of the renault alpine mentioned earlier, except it was out of a Volvo 262Coupe, what a pot it has to be said. The only decent one was the B280 which came in later 760's as it had half way decent lubrication for the cams and moderately sized oil passages. The earlier engines are complete scrap, 18-20mpg if your lucky with a measly 140bhp from a 2.7 and lucky to do its first 100k without a head rebuild and needing and i really mean needing 5k oil changes to stop the passages filling up with gunk. |

R19 he owned, the sill was for the restoration of a irish series 1 R11 turbo !!) Told him he was mad... now Im not so sure !!! For quick welly and lack of stopping power you can't beat a hot 1275cc mini on drum brakes !!!

I remember one of the nicest cars my dad had was an old Mk1 Vauxhall Cavalier 1600GLs sports hatch.
Just done a google for a pic of one but can't find a hatch sports version - might have to dig up the old photo album. ![]() |

What was hot about the g40? 1300 supercharged.. 900kgs.. 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds.. a serious sleeper. Obviously it would put most road cars to shame in a straight line but also a death trap cos they dont stop or go around corners very well. They're as rare as rocking horse poo in this country. The earlier mk2 g40 did have some motorsport pedigree though "In Germany VW built the LHD only Polo Coupe GT G40. Based on the 1272cc 55bhp engine it featured a small bore G-Lader supercharger. Used to set a number of world endurance speed records - such as the 24 hour 130mph record. A small number of these cars were built for production but were mainly sold to VW workers" tom |

The G is the bit that made it interesting - a supercharged Polo. |

I'm a bit of a Monza and manta fan myself I would have bought either but could never find one that didn't need plenty of TLC. |

Monza, e12, yum, yum - like these a lot! Was getting aircon in the missus' car topped up and the guy there had a Manta GTE and a tidy (given!) enough Fuego too. |

Worst/most disappointing car I have ever owned was a Triumph Dolomite Sprint...
(it was a few years back, mind)... It was a death trap, expensive and horrible to drive and be in... The (notorious) head gasket problem did rear its' head, but the worst part of that job was that it is nigh on impossible to remove/undo the exhaust to manifold nuts with the engine in situ... But, apart from that and a few other mechanical design woes, the car had fairly evil on-limit handling...even with decent tyres, shocks, springs, etc... The cabin was cramped and designed with the ergonomics of a 19th century sailing boat and the seats were so poor, especially for a suppossed performance car, that it was never possible to exploit any possible handling... Had a few others that were pretty poor, too...Fiat Uno 70s Race car was a total flop...Hateful handling and just unexciting performance on the track.... |

So I discovered the other day thanks to a really rubbish show about the supposed Top 30 Movie cars on sky2. Can anyone guess what the winner was??? (It wasn't the Delorean).
