Starter motor solinoid thingy is kaput.I had the same prob with my old mkIII escort.

1996 N Montreal blue 328i saloon 45k / 01 Y Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat.

Interesting. Our old 1981 VW Jetta used to do that.

Is there something in the primitive electronic brain that our Sixes have which acts as a limit, i.e. over a certain temperature, the system shuts down?

Odd annoying fault alert!

1983 635 Auto.

When the engine is hot and youve been running it for a while and you turn it off it sometimes (arent these the worst type of faults!) quite simply wont turn over at all, nothing infact not even a murmur from the starter motor. Only does it when hot.

Leave it for a bit and it starts fine.

Obvious suspect must be the starter I guess?
