Such as this one! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category =10374&item=4517772297&rd=1 Are these any good? it seems to me like all you get is a pair of ballasts and a pair of bulbs for £200, do these produce the same light intensity of the acclaimed X5 etc.... as they say? anyone got them? anyone seen the cheaper, or have an alternative? My headlights seem like they're not on!! really poor, I just replaced the bulbs too (just with the H1 xenon bulbs also sold on ebay, these were a little brighter than the bulbs that were in!! ) Views welcomed |

Not wishing to put a damper on things, and I may be wrong, but....arent these things supposed to have automatic self leveling systems on them ? May be an mot issue if true, and its what I was advised. |

Although i can't comment on the kit advertised on ebay the Hella kit i fitted to my car paased a recent MOT with no problems and i don't have headlight washers or self levelling
 ...
The only advice i can give is that everyone on the HID forums (where i researched the upgrade) advised against purchasing kits from Korea/China etc as they are of very poor quality.... I have posted these pictures previously : Here you can see the difference between the supposedly HID looking Halogen bulbs in the high beams and the hella HID kit in the low beams : 
This picture shows the very sharp cutoff that the hella kit produces (a poor beam cutoff is the most common complaint with the cheaper kits)...

I agree with Miles. If the headlights are set up correctly (and they do need to be spot on) then HID's don't seem to cause any problems at MOT time. The cut off is as sharp (if not better) than the H1 bulbs, offering excellent curb illumination, but hardly anything across the opposite carriageway (where oncoming vehicles would get any dazzle). In 18 months of use, I have not been "flashed" once by oncoming motorists. Andy Edited by Badger 540 |

Totally agree, don't know why I didn't get them sooner. When you enter an unlight section of road you don't have to wait for your eyes to adjust, wouldn't like to go back to normal bulbs now.

I have got the Hella (OE BMW) Kit with rebased philips bulbs, i can put you in touch with a guy in germany who can supply the kits for 350 (or less if we can manage to get a group buy going)
The Ballast/Igniter convert the 12V power supply to the 54K Volts needed to ignite the bulb and then regulate the supply to around 80v to maintain the arc.
