Where in our region do we think the best places for taking photo's of your car is? North Yorkshire aside! I've found a good few decent locations not too far away, but wondered if anyone has any hiddem gems they're keeping to themselves. |

Judging by the most recent Toyota adverts on the telly, they like the top of the cliffs at Tynemouth by the church, the Quayside at Newcastle, and bits of Mosely Street and Grey Street. Lumley Castle at Chester le Street is pretty good, as is Seaton Deleval Hall. How about Holy Island, Warkworth, Bamburgh, Hexham Abbey, Gibside Chapel, Durham Castle and Cathedral, Cragside Hall, Belsay Castle, the harbour at Seaton Sluice or the harbour at Craster. I could go on... |

Seaton Delaval Hall is stunning, but I didn't know you could park up there? Lumley Castle is a good one too. I didn't know Seaton Sluice had a harbour though! As for Toyota, I hadn't noticed they were taking shots at Tynemouth Priory! I'll watch out for that now! The problem with Tynemouth is they'd be able to cordon off the area and keep others from it - whereas I....well I can't! St Mary's Lighthouse at Whitley Bay is a good location - particularly on the causeway, but it's always busy and you have to pick your time really carefully for the tide.... There are a few good side roads up near Morpeth/Stannington too. Cragside Hall is fantastic, but again it's usually busy and the other 'normal' motorists get in the way... Some good idea's on here though - KEEP THEM COMING! Edited by Coasting |

There's a little road off by the Seaton Sluice roundabout the leads onto a country lane. Just off there is a private road with an old stone bridge on it and a small stream below - that's where I took a few of mine (and it's nice and quiet). There's a small country shop place just beyond the Holiday Inn where the meets are too. Go past the hotel, about 1/5 miles down the road and take the turn after the long straight on your left. Just down this road is Milkhope Country Shops (or something like that!) and thats where I took the latest pictures on the gravel. Most other visitors use another car park so you get use of the large gravel one to yourself and on a sunny day I'll be able to get much better colours in the background. I'll go back there at some point. I want to find a really dark coloured, grimey industrial estate so I can offset the yellow of my car on a polished day against a background of very dark colours. |

Floody, they're both actually superb suggestions. The Kielder one in particular. Never thought of up there. Shields is good too....but keep the keys firmly in hand...! |

Hmmm....paint stripper on the car...no thanks! South Gare at Redcar might be better come to think of it, but that's a good hour from me. Might have to look closer to home. |

I reckon taking pictures in new, low lit multi-storey car parks..with nice, newly painted floors with contrasting tarmac coulours looks very pro. Or alongside some good piece of building architecture ...pictures in the countryside are getting boring now, Im sick of looking at my own and everyone elses motors set in the foreground of fields featuring the usual of add-on sheep, welsh-farmers, dog walkers etc.

Seaton Deleval Hall has big iron gates with a gravel area in front on the main road. I reckon you can park on the gravel with the gates as a 'frame' and the Hall behind. The dunes at Bamburgh, or even the dunes at Blyth would be OK. South Shields Town Hall has featured in a few adverts, I notice. |

Good point about Delaval Hall. It's an incredibly important building too. Built by Sir John Vanburgh in 1718 and still the home of the 22nd Lord Hastings. The history is immense. The Delaval family came over from France with William of Normandy in 1066! They settled in Northumberland towards 1100 and in 1102 they built a small church called "The Church of our Lady" - and it is still in use in use today as a private chapel! It took 10 years to build the Hall. However, what few people know is that it was Vanburgh who built it. Bearing in mind he was responsible for Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard you get some idea of how important Delaval Hall is. He died 2 years before the Hall was finished, so it remains his last great work.

South Gare is quite good. I have posted some pics on my thread 'Newbie'. It wasn't one of the best days for photography, but it gives you an idea of what it would be like on a sunny day. |

Yes, I lived in Redcar for a short time and used to pop down to South Gare occasionally. The photo opportunities are even better if you drive deeper into the complex, but you usually get somebody telling you that you shouldn't be there (which of course, you shouldn't!). I was considering using it as an industrial backdrop for some I want of my own car, but I've opted for location closer to North Tyneside so that the car isn't filthy by the time I get there! |
