You can moan and groan at the government all day, but the bills keep on going up and up regardless.

I feel that we are not listened to, the government go ahead with their plans regardless, hence why i don't bother voting, as it's a sheer waste of my time and effort.

bit late in on this one chaps but one thing worries me on this subject

opinions and views are personal but facts are facts

that brown somehow created economic stability is a myth

after boom and bust and undoubted mismanagement of the economy john major and norman lamont changed one critical aspect of our economic landscape

they took interest rates out of the hands of politicians and gave the bank of england the power to set the rate

that created stability and opened the door to investment by removing political expediency from the equation

not grinding a political axe here but be in no doubt that gordon's economic miracle was not of his making

but that's not what new labour would have us believe

So we'd all be safe voting LibDem then would we?

Safe in the knowledge that the economy will remain stable?

Sorry, but that just isn't case.

The BoE rate control is indeed a factor, but you cannot dismiss economic stability completely out of the hands of Gordon Brown in one sweeping statement such as "be in no doubt that gordon's economic miracle was not of his making"!!!

I agree that the Tories had actually started to bite the bullet towards the end of their last term and it made it easier for the roadmap to be followed by Brown, but staying on the road and ensuring fiscal control outside of the BoE is one of the Chancellors jobs.

Do you think he has nothing to do with it?  So what's his job?

He is responsible for the raising revenues through taxation and the control of public expenditure - all of which transcend lines of communication with the BoE.

Tax cut after tax cut would lead to economic destability - but you're saying that the Chancellor has no control over that?

whether brown has done anything to destabilise what he inherited is a different question (but obviously a relevant one)

my point is that he did not give us economic stability but that is what the spin doctors want us to believe

maybe the tories would have ruined everything given a few more years - my personal view is that they probably would have

brown is not an economic maestro or a visionary but that is how he is being sold to everybody

there are black holes in the economy and he's screwed up the pensions industry very badly

my opinion is that brown is given too much credit

the tories have won all the political arguments - otherwise why would new labour be following their policies?

i don't think saying the supposed economic miracle was not of brown's making is sweeping or dismissive - outside spin doctoring it's acknowledged to be a fact

and the safety of the BoE controlling interest rates is more than just a factor - it has revolutionised economic forecasting...and brown would just love to get the control back...

new labour - just a confidence trick

Lib Dems? Yeah, righto.

New Liebour:

Took you headfirst into an illegal, occupational war
with another country that you will be mopping up in
10 year's time. Believe me, you'll not be out of that
mess for quite some time.

Have taxed you through the roof - and for what?
Education, crime and the health service are almost
laughable....only it's very, very unfunny. The taxes you
pay are ploughed back into government quangos
and mind numbing beaurocracy. And if Blair stays in
powaaar, it's going to get worse. And when you're
being taxed at 30%, paying toilet tax and the like,
Tony will have a nice £250'000 a year job in
Brussels.

In fact, the only thing Blair and Brown can 'claim' is
the interest levels are at a very low level. But hang on
a minute - doesn't the Bank of England set interest
levels for you these days? In that case, they've done
nothing apart from drive Britain (I hesitate to call it
'Great' these days) into a depth of national despair.
Yob culture is a major problem you don't find
elsewhere in Europe.

Sorry, but Michael Howard is the only chance Britain
has of escaping from the hole it's in. If only to get rid
of Blair and his awful band of patriots (someone
likened Prescott to Hermann Goering - i.e a fat,
useless, smug, overpaid sack of s**t)......

......VOTE TORY!!

By the way, 20 cigarrettes cost £2.20 in Europe.
Petrol is 60p a litre in Luxembourg.

I think its off to luxembourg. Better than 86p pre litre. Ripping off the rural community and they wonder why more and more people rip off insurance, MOTs etc.

Giving figures for Luxembourg can be very misleading.

It has the highest GDP per head of any EU country, outperforming it's nearest rival (France) by 50%.

It has the highest female salaries compared with any other country in the world - paying 89% of the average male salary.

The UK doesn't fare too badly though, at 75%

Luxembourg also ranks as No.1 for the highest standard of living of any EU country.

All good news then?

Well, if you view the full Consumer Price Index for living in Luxembourg you will find that prices as a whole are considerably higher than in the UK.

If you use the figure ZERO as the average price of consumer goods across the EU then the UK comes in at +1.3.

Luxembourg comes in at +2.3, making it the third highest ranked country in the EU in terms of pricing of consumer goods above average price.

The above is a very key indicator of the fact that the price of a single item (i.e. petrol) in isolation means very little indeed.

I could pick an item in the UK that is much less than in Luxembourg, but it'd mean very little.

When you add everything together, the UK is the 6th most expensive EU country to live in....with Switzerland being the most expensive and Luxembourg the second most expensive to live in....so all is not how it is painted by a single figure.

Oh, and if you want broadband access or use the phone at lot - don't move to Luxembourg, because OECD statistics will tell you it has the highest prices of any other EU country by a considerable margin.

So look at the whole picture before jumping ship!

The political argument will go on forever, they all claim the previous lot left a mess that took years to clean up (give us another term mate). I personally never vote Labour as during my time they never gave the armed forces enough of a wage to live on, leading to widespread moonlighting. However, as with all of us that is my personal choice.

I do think Horsetans clip was a stunner, lmao, have to remember that one!

I have to admit Ian, thats what makes me a tory, although Maggie came to power shortly after I'd joined ( big wage rises all round ), and she was still there when I left !
Best Wishes

Scotland is just as bad. Voting SNP is all well and good, but does anyone seriously believe that Westminster is going to let 6.5 million people go off and do their own thing just like that? Economists here have said that Scotland does not have the population or infrastructure to support itself - but then I suppose look at Ireland. It's a well known fact that all our tax money north of the border disappears into Westminster never to be seen again, it certainly doesn't come back up here anyway. I think Scotland would benefit greatly from becoming independent, we would certainly get away from that maniac Blair.

Incidentally did anyone know that Tony has been known to carry a Koran around in his pocket? So much for fighting the Muslims, he now wants to become one of them. I can think of no worse prospect for our country than a muslim leader. My vote is definitely with the Conservatives now.

Not sure Tony Bliar (oops!) carries the Koran around. Prince Charles is rumoured to. The Koran promotes peace, but like the bigots on both sides in NI who say they are 'Christian' just different denominations, some extremeists use religion to polarise there actions.

I would not have a problem with a PM being a Muslim, can't be any worse than a Christian PM who attends the Pope's funeral with Bush and other 'terrorists' paying 'lip service' when so many countries are ravaged by war, injustice and famine.

Bush and Bliar should be made to spend a day with a community in the West Bank, Congo, Zimbawe etc. whose lives they directly affect but do bugger all to improve.

Since WCUK now also has ballot rigging through the post, maybe we should invite Robert Mugabe to visit us, instead of just shaking his hand accidentally on purpose on State occasions......

Which brings us nicely back to the idea of a black pope.........Nah!

Koran? I thought Charles was busy carrying Camilla around?

All the major and most minor religions support peace on earth, but until all the leaders get together and denounce violence it will still cause wars. I'm not sure a non christian PM would be something to worry about - unless Doive's right and it's Bliar!
