Hi guys,
Yet another prob with my e34, dont know what I'd do without this forum ! I hope someone can help me with this as I dread to think what BMW will charge. About 2 weeks ago my stereo died for about 5 mins then came back to life but had lost all the pre-set stations at the same time the windows failed and when I parked up the remote locking wasnt working. I left the car for 5 mins and everything worked again. This is now happening on nearly every trip I make but its really sporadic and it only effects the stereo, central locking, windscreen wipers and windows - the car still drives etc. And I discovered this morning that if I leave the car for more than a day without driving it the battery is flat - it was a new batt about 2 months ago and until the above problems started the charge was fine. I really hope someone can help as climbing in and out of the car through the passenger door (emergency lock)because the lock servos have died is getting really embarressing ! Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions West '91 e34 525 sport Edited by west |

Had a very similar problem with my old 525, it was one of the fusible links (the metal strip had cracked and would cause the problems you are having).
Hope that helps. Miles |

This link should help you locate the fusible link Fusible Link.
Hope that helps and thanks for the compliment Miles |

My 96 518i has exactly the same problem and, like you, I have still not found what is causing the problem. I have posted on other forums without success. Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I couldnt find a smiley for stupid... I checked the fusible link again, but this time I undid the bolts, rather than just a visual check... result? broken link, with the fracture hiding under the cable connector. Spent a princely 56p on two links (just in case). Problem hopefully solved now. Its one thing to get expert advice, quite something else to follow it!
Thanks for all the postings! |
