Does anyone know if it's actually possible to successfully install cruise control as a retro-fit ? I saw this (link below) and was wondering if it would actually work. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HB62&mospi d=47371&btnr=66_0035&hg=66&fg=95 |

I looked into this albeit not in too much detail. M&G
said it was a no no but then I doubt they would be too interested in getting into it anyway. ICE in Ranelagh can retro fit cruise to the E34 but I thought better of it, the column mounted stalk looked like a real piece of cr*p and aftermarket would concern me. 95 520iA |

I had aftermarket cruise on the recently departed 325i and it worked fine. Not quite as smooth on engaging and disengaging as the factory fit on the 523i but very handy on a run and especially at avoiding getting carried away on urban routes with sneaky cameras, etc. The only issue with the particular setup on the e30 was that I never figured out how to deccelerate with it. It did all the other stuff, engage, accelerate, resume, etc. As Don said, the stalk didn't quite look the part like a factory fit but it was close enough. |
