I'll provide passenger laps for any newbie who wants to learn the lines, or anyone who just wants to head out (I won't have spare helmets this time though). Just drop over and ask - I'm in this:

Bad line: Do you come here often?
Good line: Never found one that worked.
Fun: Fully agree with TJ!

A line, as in "the best line" or "the racing line", when used in reference to a racing track means the fastest route around the track... most times its the shortest route, but not always. Basically you want to keep to that line for max speed & acceleration, and so you dont have to do any psycho gear changes mid corner.

Lines are so you can evenly distrubute the substance in a equal manner. Also aids the hovering up of the substance as well.
Lines can also be used as a measure...

of course... back to topic.
"Holiday in IRL" & "Stena Line" require a change from 2nd to 3rd mid-bend in my yoke as you're hitting the limiter, and that's on the taught line (in the dry). As you say the line often isn't the shortest route, but the one that will allow you to get on the power quickest and carry the most speed out and down the straight.
Get those bushes sorted in time and get the car out, llatsnI!!!

But seriously.... usually most tracks have a section on the website or
have something written about the speed to take and lines to take around
the track. Does Mondello not have one?

I know 7a to 7b pretty well - spent a bit of time "holidaying" in the sand (gravel) there earlier in the year!!!

@ UJM3: Turn 3 is a ball cos it requires the most commitment I think. It can go from fun to scary pretty quick too...
You go in at the top of 3rd gear, a quick turn & drift for the initial entry, get it straightened while keeping on the throttle to keep some bit of balance, then once straightened hard on brakes and a blip down to 2nd before the tight part.
It's hard to put the power down out of the corner though without a limited slip diff. My last car (E34 525) used to spin the inside rear badly which was annoying, and this corners exit was my primary reason for buying the 328 - it had a limmo!
The next bend has a lovely entry too, as you're turning in while in 3rd gear and braking, & needing to get a decent heel&toe down into 2nd while the car is loaded up. When you get it right and there's hardly a shimmy from the back end, then tis a great buzz.

@ Fey: whatever about 7b, going off in 7a could be a bit hairy - you can be over 100mph braking into that!!!! Not too much run off either if you don't manage to get someway turned in.
My spins were on the exit of Birrans and in MG. Just blagarding really, and trying to teach myself how to get some bigger drifts initiated & balanced.. Big fun, big stakes & big flat-patches on the tyres when I came to a halt after 270° of spinnage (Popeye would be proud of me)

There's plenty of run off initially, but as you approach the tighter section and the main turn-in point, there's not alot but grass/tyres/ditch if you outbrake yourself (Lola is opposite it). I saw a MkIII Gti do just that and a badly kinked A-pillar was the result. So it's a corner you need to build up to!
I've a full service due, incl tranny and diff fluid hopefully. Brakes and tyres are ok (Pagid fast roads front & rear, and DOT5.1 fluid). I replaced the front wheel bearings, but a hum that was there didn't go away so I need to get it found & fixed before the 16th!
