TJ - I couldn't get to 100mph on the track even if I took all non-essentials off the car!  My clutch had gone, so I steered into it and went as far back as I could so that I wouldn't cancel the session!

@ Fey : Dose! Forgot about that clutch prob u had. You're well set for this session tho?

@ Techno : oh dear. that happened on a Citroen I had before on what was meant to be a very quick 2nd to 3rd change - it ended up a 2nd to neutral to grazing knuckle off dash change!! R u bringing the E30 out this time, or that bleedin' rapid E36 you were pedalling around last time?

Techno - that was Digweed, who has now gone to the dark side.  Having put €400 of petrol in his 520 in 2 weeks, he took a big hit and traded it against an '01 Audi A4 TDi, 130bhp last week.  Took it out against my 520 the other day; from a standing start he reckoned he stayed with me until 3rd gear (I think he was falling behind well before that!!!)

Although he's a club member, he doesn't have a BM to bring out on track.  Pity.

Anyone new to the BDD thing should try to get Ger out with for a lap, just make sure you have your pampers on before hand as you will need them when you see how late you really have to leave until you stand on the brakes.

As for tun 3 - aim for the huge tree in the distance between the apexes, leave braking to the last and turn in just as the the front quarter starts to hang over the tarmac - thats assuming you make the first trurn in correctly otherwise ignore all advice previous.

I could never get the next one right as the camber falls off and I wouldn't risk it as I need the car on Monday, exercise caution there as the casualty last time was not one that anyone would like to see repeated.

Rest of of track is good fun with Dunlop requiring a few laps to get the feel of it as its difficult to see round and gauge properly - this is the place to get the back out if you want to get some glamour pics from the pitlane.

Looks like I'm going to miss this one, have my eye on a few E30 318is machines in the UK but can't see being organised enough to have on in and ready for the day.

Fey

After a 328i and an M3 Evo I don't think I'd get the same tail out fun action with the 520 especialy with the Auto box. Just wouldn't be the same for me plus SWMBO would not take kindly to me thrashing it.

I might spin down for a look if I get the chance.

@ Techno: tis a nice set-up. More road optimised than track, but it holds its own on the circuit. A revelation after the 525i I had - it took a bit to adjust to the higher limits, and you have to carry (relatively)mega speed to get it moving about like the 5, but I'm learning to cope

@ BM Fan: on M3 sale - happy hunting for da new toy

TJ - been thinking bout something dedicated for track days - even browsing Catherham and Westfield stuff.

As you said above its hard to get the balance right as most road use cars will underperform on track and a car optimized for the track will suck as an everyday driver.

Therefore the only solution is a dedicated trackday machine and a regular road car

First week of october booked off. Should have time to fit SS lines and coilovers in time for mondello!

Bumper will have to wait, just ordered some new tyres too, Falken 451 (thanks to Fey ), so I'll have the racing colors on!
