My 1st trackday was in the wet, and it was great. You're going that much slower, any slide is initiated that bit more progressively (no real snapping etc..) so you get a better feel for what you need to do to recover things. And it gives you great confidence when you're on the public road; not to go hooning, but on knowing you can deal with the unexpected a bit better. And tis alot easier on tyres etc..

All that said, it did scare the bejesus out of me the 1st two sessions!!! And I'm positive that it'll do the exact same if it rains the next time. But tis good craic all the same .

I agree with T.J We are having a Better Driving Day (BDD) on October 16th. The object is better driving in all conditions and that includes wet.

The unfortunate thing is, if the day is wet we may lose a number of people who think they do not have the ability to drive in the wet.

They are the people that need to do the BDD the most, to help them build up their confidence in tricky conditions and be better drivers on public roads.

I am looking forward to the day, wet or dry.

I'm confident driving in the wet - but the only reason I won't be going out there if it rains is that I know theres going to be others on the track who'll push it too far in the rain, and I don't want someone merging the front of their car with the rear of mine...

Ditto, Ken.  I need to actually drive home this time!

On a different note, we may have an e36 M3 joining us, too.  A friends boyfriend changed his e36 325 for one yesterday, and might be convinced to join up and come along.

Sorry, Sean - as it says, not an official list (I could only go on what I saw on this thread, and only made the list so that people could see what kind of cars will be there).  Is yours the shark nose that was there in March? Nice!

///M3Mick - Why didn't you just say so???

Good point Eamonn and Ken. But have you not noticed that M3s tend to crash on dry tack days! So maybe the risk factor is higher on dry days, as T.J. said most people are more cautious on wet days.

Also Eamonn in relation to your comment from August 2nd which I have copied below

"I was - had a great dice with the porker on the back section - and the lost it coming into the bend just before dunlop - going too hard and lost the back end - ended up sideways in the gravel - no damage thank god just a bruised ego!!"

I hope you will not be engaged in that sort of driving at the BMW Better Driving Day, remember dicing(racing) is not allowed. Read the application form.

E46 M3 and E34 M5 both got stacked on the first BDD I was at - when it was damp. I think my main concern is older cars that don't have ABS coming up behind me - will wait and see what its like on the day.
