Hmm....there's certainly some dicing going on here. I won't add to the melee but I will say this...

gj: Have you been to a single track ("Better Driving") day where Club Members were not racing/competing? I've missed only one and I can tell you for sure that this is exactly what the greater majority of drivers are doing.

Eamonn I would like to remind you that you are the same level of member of the BMW car club as I am. So the "business" of the Better Driving Day is my business. People with an attitude like yours to safe driving at Better Driving Days should not be allowed on the track for the safety of everyone else.

As to the "get a life" comment with your attitude to courteous track driving, people should be worried about their lives if they are on the track at the same time as you.

Im intirgued with that as I have never seen you drive a BMW. I thought you were more used to fiat ritmo's.

Do not for one second imply that I am reckless and put peoples lives in danger when I am on track.

The club is far better off without narrow minded people such as you - your a wannabe BMW owner

Hi Dalts

To keep the clubs good reputation with Mondello Park management, we need to be careful not to be seen dicing/racing.

Remember Mondello Park staff can decide to not let you out again if they deem your driving unsafe (no Refund!), the club has no part in that decision.

So let this be the last comment on dicing/racing to everyone

Drive carefully and respectfully and everyone will have a good day.

Guys

Relax and take a deep breath then move on.

Everyone knows the rules, both in detail and in spirit.  Enjoying the experience and driving safely can be, and generally is, achieved.

If a philosophical discussion (!) about the finer points of attitudes and approaches to driving is required it might be advisable to take it off forum.

I leave for a few minutes and look what happens; I miss all the sniping!

Personally, I'd prefer it to be dry, but that's just me; I must be a bit of a boring fuddy-duddy.

As for a bit of competitiveness (is that spelt right?), I'd probably be competitive if I had the car and the skills necessary for it!

Kin - how reverse-racist of you to imply that that's a sunburnt Irishman, and how paranoid of you to think that that's a little Chinese man!!!

As for the colour coding relating to cars, don't say that too loudly in front of people driving yellow cars.

The T&C's may say no competitive driving, but Mondello officials are, presumably, used to people racing on the circuit.

Also, we're ALL (or should all be) old and mature enough to decide what risks we individually want to take, and be capable of assessing that we're not, as individuals, putting others at risk.

fey

yes - that was a track day not a better driving day of which I have complete understanding of both.

for those who seem to be confused about the difference between a BDD and a track day here's an explanation of a track day at Mondello

Well said Fey!

As regards Mondello officials yes they have seen plenty of racing (some are still racing), but safety is their first priority, driving pleasure on the track comes lower. So they will pull people off the track for poor driving standards.

Things we need to aware of

Some drivers of fast cars can be a trifle slow on corners, what happens then is a car that is quicker than them catches them on the corners but cannot pass them on the straight as T&C require. If your are a fast car in such a situation let the other car through you may learn some lines by following him. If you are the quick in corners car back off a number of car lenghts and give yourself a clear track.

Since you are not alone on the track be aware that using your mirrors is just as important as what is straight ahead.

Going back to the fast in a straight line versus fast in corner. In a real race the fast in corner car would out brake the other car to get past, but this is not allowed on a Better Driving Day.

So everyone find your own space on the track and enjoy yourself, don't be self-centred and hold other people up, just let them through. If you get a flash of lights from behind, move over, lift off and let them through. You will lose nothing for a brief lift on the straight. You could lose a lot more if you brake early with a quick car behind you.
