Strange one this: About two weeks ago the car developed a low-level hum whilst the engine is running. It's coming from the boot, and roughly underneath the parcel shelf where the speakers are mounted (slightly to the offside). It's not the speakers or the autochanger; any ideas? |

I've been thinking a lot about this (but not taken anything apart yet). I understand there's a secondary fuel pump attached to the sender unit at the top of the tank, accessible from the boot. Do you think a duff pump, or blocked filter might be causing a whine/hum which is then being transferred to, and amplified by, the fuel expansion tank? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Simon |

There is a fuel pump/filter there which is the cause of a smell of petrol in the car when the seal goes.
Have a look on www.bigcoupe.com for info on checking it out. My old Audi 80 had a noisey pump which sounded exactly as you describe. Failure isn't imminent - they can whine on for years. |
