Please help,

I am looking at a 328i sport automatic tonight. Does anyone have realistic fuel economy figures?

Any help appreciated.

My E36 328 got around 28mpg. Obvioulsy it depends on how you drive. It could be as low as 22 or as high as 37 on a long run. Mine was a manual so I would have thought an auto would be a bit more thirsty although not much.

I believe the rule of thumb is 2mpg lower for an auto over the manual figues, so on pete's figures 20-35, although 20 is a bit low unless you live in belgravia....

Best I ever got was 32.5, and the worst 20.2 (albeit with a knackered Lambda Sensor at the time).  I averaged 27MPG over the two years I had the car.  At the time my driving was 75% round town and 25% Motorways.

Thank you so much for that.

What would be your guess at a price. Its auto with leather, 95k on the clock, full BMW history and mint.

these don't seem to be too much on the market pulse - a bit low perhaps, how far off these is this car:

What is the dealer price  Dealer £4,845
What is the private price  Private £4,295
What is the part exchange price  Part exchange £3,895
What is the trade price  Trade £3,695
What is the cost new price  Cost new £29,750

Cheers, I haven't heard that since I was at school....

If it's a genuine sport and it's in good condition with a full history then it's worth it. Be careful mind, there are a few cars out there dressed up to look like sports that aren't. The sport model came with proper sports seats and a Limited slip diff amongst other things.

Also check for nikasil!! I wouldn't buy a car that still had a Nikasil block. If you ring BMW uk they can tell you whether it is a genuine sport and it if has had an engine change due to Nikasil.

If your not sure what the whole Nikasil issue is do a search. There is tonnes of stuff on here about it.

If it's in good condition, recently serviced, with a years MoT, good tyres and a full tank of fuel.  That's still good money for a 9/10 year old car.  Offer him £4k and haggle from there...

Can anyone advise if E36's of this vintage could be blighted by Nikasil blocks.  I know 1996 E39 5's are.  Would be worth checking out before striking a deal.

Hellojed.  If you do a search on the word Nikasil, you will find plenty about it in the forum.  To summarise Nikasil was used in the cylinder lining on lots of cars from 96 - 98, and the sulpher content of UK fuel detrimentally affected the Nikasil, resulting in premature bore wear, loss of compression etc.   BMW have now stopped treating this as a warranty issue, so its worth a check.

They can be, but if they've got to 100k mileage and have no problem with tickover or emissions the chances are they're ok.
