I have an idea which, would benefit both club, members and cars which, entails some sort of advanced driving instruction course on an annual basis in Scotland. The idea is presently sketchy but, here it is: Once a year members would be invited to attend an advanced driving control test in mocked up unpleasant driving conditions.A qualified Police driving instructor, or such like, would put each member and their car through the course with a certificate being presented to the member once complete. This Certificate would in turn, be presented to an insurance company who, would reduce annual premiums on car insurance for the holder of the certificate. The purpose of this course being to instruct each member how to control their vehicle in extreme weather conditions. I have submitted an email to the chairman with a view of safety, control and a long term committment for both members and club. Perks being, cheaper insurance via an annual certificate, which would need renewed annually (by doing it again as a refresher course to obtain the year long certificate). Please feel free to post you name if you would like to take part in such an event. |

BMWCC would be a first, as far as I know in scotland. don't know if anyone does this but, a brainstorming session etc would soon get the ball rolling.

Too early to say for definite, it's just the birth of an idea. I am open to suggestions though, this thread is merely for collecting interested members. Edited by BMW4US |

Ah i see where you are coming from now
The only insurance recognized thing would be IAM But to do this as a club thing would not work Its best to do this yourself Cost is £85
If you are thinking along the lines of Corporate driving days like Skid pans/Defensive driving etc these cost loads Something like this Edited by pete323 |

Do you fancy the sound of that Pete - an annual skid control course etc.. I know John Safe runs one down south but would be good to have one here - what do you think Tommy? I'd whole heartidly recommend iam but it doesn't sticly per se focus on wet/winter car control - tho if you sit your aim during the mid of the winter then it would certainly have to address it... As to an annual certificate of car control then I would be very interested and sure I could rope a few guys from scottishcarclub as well.. I'm also hoping John Safe arranged a day at Milbrook which we could all trek down to.. expert tuition on the alpine course.. As for track days then log onto www.scottishcarclub.com and see if any events take your fancy.. that goes to all BMWCCGB mbrs who are all welcome. Knockhill do a skid pan course but that's about it. |

There are courses in the magazines so may be worth pursuing.. if you post sth on www.scottishcarclub.com you may find some more interest there.. I think people will want some sort of recognised certification for their efforts which means the backing of an org rather than just a get together.. I'd also check with RADA which is the road section of ROSPA.. May be worth posting sth to the better driving forum and see what Nigel, John Safe and co come back with.. |

I'd be up for advanced driving training. I've done skidpan and other odds n sods before, but something structured/regular would be cool.

Just don't bank on any special insurance discounts. Even the IAM discount isn't worth the certificate it's printed on because you can negotiate a similar discount without it.

I would be intersted in high speed training plus all the other exercises such as U-turn (with handbrake), J-turn and the rest...of course in a secure/safe environment and not on public roads. If this is what you are offering, then count me in! Cheers |
