Hi All
looks like I need to get my front windscreen replaced (e60 530d ).
did anyone her have this done ?
I had it repaired last year ( thats now failed )because I didnt want to let anyone near it I had a bad job done on my previous 530 all the pillars scratched by a fitter who didnt give a toss ,eventhough its insured(and they wont pay for dealer to it !!) Im just wary of non orignal window / bad fitment / wind noise / leaking etc so I need to go in the right direction.................... can anyone help btw im in Ireland an hour from Dublin..

I had mine replaced by the RAC last July and I have had no problems with it, the only bad thing is that there is a big RAC logo in the bottom left corner, but I have managed to hide that with my tax disc holder!
Apparently the way to get a windscreen out a car is to hit it with a large hammer so it shatters then a spotty oik from the windscreen replacement centre gets into your leather upholstered car, winds the back of the seat back a bit then lifts both his feet above your spotless dash and then proceeds to kick the windscreen out from the inside of the car.
The above was witnessed by my dad!

I had my screen replaced a couple of years ago by a small 'two man'
shop. They did an excellent job cutting the old screen out &
bonding the new screen & mirror in, and never even broke any clips!
Well worth the £80 he charged I reckon!
HTH,
Shaun

Sorry to cause you guys any displeasure but if you really insist on BMW only glass then that's what they will fit and through the RAC. I had this done last year on my E39 530i and RAC Auto Windscreens had to have my insurance company authorise the ordering of the OEM glass which took about a week to arrive.

I wouldn't insist on BMW glass only just I don't want a piggin' orrible RAC logo on my windscreen. A XXX logo would be perfectible acceptable to me.

I can't believe they smash a windscreen out like that - it's a stone-age
way of doing things. Surely there must be a more scientific method? If it
has to be smashed, why not cover the inside of the windscreen with a
sturdy layer of sticky PVC sheeting to catch all the bits?
Has anyone else here had experiences of any other windscreen
specialists? Do I understand correctly that BMW stealers don't do glass
themselves?
I'm astounded.

My latest BM had it's windscreen replaced by RAC the week before a picked it up. I know what you mean about the logo ![](smileys/Disapprove.gif) but generally a good job was done - i.e. fitting it, trim etc in tact. Although it does seem to have a little bit more wind noise than I'd like at the front

Mine had had the screen refitted twice now by RAC, and it still whistles when on the move, They no longer replace the screen surround trim unless it it missing, mine now sits proud along the top edge due to them being useless. Insurance company will not get involved since i essentially paid for it myself when i paid the excess,
Autoglass seemingly now fit a one piece rubber surround on the e34 instead of the hard plastic two piece oem part.
Currently following around behind gravel trucks trying to get another new windscreen this time from autoglass.
