I was bored today so I thought I'd get the car cleaned....On my way, I realised that I needed to stop being lazy and do it myself. So I ended up in halfords of all places.
I looked about and decided to buy the meguiars gold range cleaner and polish. For the wheels, I bought some turtle wax wheel cleaner and protector. Anyway, washed the car as per usual and then the dilemna...In the casing was a detailer spray, that I assumed went on first to smooth out the paintwork?! Which I did...but then these clay bars wtf???? I decided enough was enough and ask your lots advice first. What is the correct procedure for applying the clay stuff? Cheers in advance Tiko |

1st step read the box 2nd step after washing the car, use the QD spray as a lube for the clay, glide the clay over the lubed area. Rinse car off and dry, tip use the QD as a drying aid as well |

Instructions insisted on not letting the QD dry...had to buff off right away?????
So basically you're telling me to spray on the QD and apply the clay same time??? Then wipe it off and then rinse eh?? |

Tiko If it is Meguiars quick clay you have bought then there should be instructions with the kit, if not there is a label on the back of the bottle that you partially peel off to read the instructions. You wash and dry the car. See tips from this forum. Spray small amount of detailing liquid onto the car. Rub clay bar over the paintwork where it is wet from the detailing liquid. You need to apply a bit of pressure. You will see the contaminants that the clay picks up from your paintwork stuck to the clay. Repeat over the whole car. Wash and dry car again to remove traces of the detailing spray and any residue from the clay. You can see the difference that the clay makes as such but you will certainly be able to feel the difference between the areas you have and haven't done. You then polish the car to maximise the effect. Andrew |

Quick note re clay bars...... divide the larger bar into smaller pieces as if you drop the thing........back to Halfrauds you go, unless you want the scratched look or you have a immaculately clean floor.

My mum and fiancée both work in Greenock! Halfrauds at Braehead only do the Megs clay which I have bought. When I asked someone there about Clay bars they thought I was speaking a different language. Andrew |
