yes, they do have a boot, but not much of one when the roofs down!  still looks cool though, it hasnt dated quite as much as the e36 coupe and saloon

what kind of scooby doo were you thinking of?  ive only driven the mk1 version, and hated it, very quick because it was chipped, but bland, and the boring generic japanese interior really let it down

I have to admit the lure of the Scooby is large......I have experience of a mates Legacy GTB, clocked at 174MPH round Knockhill, the noise is awesome yet irksome at the same time and the Cherry / Sunny / Corolla / Carina / Charade / Micra / Proton / Kia interior would annoy the t@ts out of me all day long !!

Its taken you this long to sell your E39, take a bit of time over the choice of your new mount !

the scooby is a type 1 RA but it has had a few factory order comfort's fitted ie: elec window's, mirror's, central locking .. these are not standard on a RA model

this is the very one

i'm know a very, very good scooby mechanic he build's these things on a daily basis, both him and his son are going to go with me to look at both car's tomorrow, i drove his 410BHP monster tonight and i gotta say i was impressed, very impressed   they are crazy handling car's on roundabout's .. he got it to a unleagle spped just going round one tonight in the wet and it never stepped out once. the scooby is drawing me in, i'll not be using it as a daily runner as my E30 will be the car for that, the scooby or E36 will be for ... ME

Having had one, I can honestly say they're bloody fast and grippy.  BUT they're not that reliable and cost a lot to keep running right.

Mine was used as daily for 12 months and as a 2nd car for 8 and must've cost me iro £3-4k in repairs  - and it was a tidy one!  Although it was 11 yrs old.

If you are really into the Scooby, I suggest trying a JDM Integra Type-R.  V reliable if not mucked about with, all you'll ever need are brake pads, tyres and to do regular oil changes.

Go for the E36 BM's all the way.

I hate scoobies, well more of the case i hate the drivers , they think they own the road, 'hey look at me and my big scooby' , gits.

Scooby would be my pick for a weekend toy.

E36 vert is a cruiser not a B road blaster.

for a wkend toy the scooby would win it hands down for me, you already have a convertible why buy another for the wkend.
BUT
I can't see you behind the wheel of a scooby, in my mixed up mind I see people driving certain cars and you don't belong there.
the other thing you mentioned about needing a large boot for regular trips down south. I imagine after a few hrs of motorway in the scooby it'll feel like you've just done a european tour.
and will you use the scooby for what it's made for, no point in having a car like that and not giving it the beans at every opportunity

just my tuppence

I like the Integra Type R idea, an unassuming car that'll cruise all day long then bite your head off at the drop of a hat although if it was me I'd spend my money on a Lancia Delta Integrale or a nice wee Alfa Romeo(to hell with reliability)

good luck big chap with whatever you decide and I hope it works out

here ya go Paul

cleaned it yesterday then took a few pic's

so far, it's cheaper to insure than my E39, it's about the same on fuel (about town) full set of brake pad's (front's are real deal scooby item's) rears are after market brand £37:75 for the four

i got a second alarm been fitted today (sigma cat 1) it came with a toad Cat 1 ... Oh yeah and the insurance company i went with (A-Plan) didn't even ask if it was alarmed!

fit the new pad's tomorrow, i'll also clean and paint the calipers.

E30 NEWS: i went today for a new radiator for my E30 and ..... can't get one, stopped making them and there is no stock of them any where???

so ive to drop my leaking one of with a rad-fixer to get it re-cored, won't get it back till tuesday  which in turn put's back the respray!!

i spot a dump valve, is that the only engine modification?  what kind of power do these RA things kick out as standard?
