    Posted: 21-May-2009 at 10:28

My m3 is peeing oil out when its hot on a run. seems to be out of the front of the block round the timing case but behind the power steering pump area, it then runs down and back and all over the sump, rack, etc.

thought it may be the timing case seal but having cleaned that area behind the pulley it seems to be more towards the pump...any ideas?

The oil pressure & Temp switchs are around there so might be one or both of them.

Top and bottom sump bolts are prone to coming loose. AFAIR you can't tighten all the top sump bolts without removing the bottom sump.

If the hidden ones come completely undone they fall into the bottom of the sump!

Do you have a Camberley Auto Factors, APD or Euro Car Parts near you?

Try one of them

yes mate, been on euro they are showing low stock whatever that means - just going to try camberley website. bit of a pig to get off, nuts were "F T " ! to say the least...would rather put a new one on.

btw, i recon the leak is the bottom gasket - last night i took the belly pan off and cleaned it all thoroughly - today its had a 30 mile run and its come out of there and run round the "bottom" sump.

Damn that bloody radio (and your wiring!)  There is nothing you have done here to upset the radio/computer circuit, so it is a weird one. When does it blow? when you turn the engine over?

Nothing ... Ummm, I don't know. Just have a close look at what you did when you changed the starter. I can't think of anything you would have disturb'd.

Try removing the radio and disconnecting it and see if the fuse still blows, if it does, then it isn't that LOL.

Hmm, yeah, I hear where you are coming from. Looks like some stripping back is called for

Anyway, what you want the radio for? The engine makes its own music

about your oil leak, check the dip stick tube. If you can wiggle it you may have found your oil leak! They sometimes come loose in the block and it is very hard to seal them again with the engine assembled.

ta Uwe..forgot about the leak at the moment, need the car desparate and seem tohave a short on the feed to the radio/computer. the left hand/outer spade of the fuse and the 12v memory connection to the radio are common with earth ...

..so i'm thinking its the supply side of that, anyone any idea what colours?
