Has anyone experience of the following symptoms. Went sitting at lights in neutral, there is s light imbalance coming from the engine. If I very very gently push the throttle the engine gets "STUCK" at around 800/900 rpms. This is a really strange sensation. If I push the throttle harder it goes through and then revs freely. Under normal driving you don’t really notice, it’s as if the load of the clutch and drive train sort of absorbs the roughness. Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions as to how I might investigate this and fix it? The car does run pretty well and seems to still go quite quickly. If you drove hard, you would probably never notice this thing....

Don't know the car or the engine, but check/clean the idle control valve, and the MAF or AFM, whichever it has.
Then plugs and coils I guess... |

Also, check for any air leaks on the intake side of the engine, in rubber pipes, etc.

I would get a diagnostic check on it first. It could be anything. Things like air leaks from pipes may be obvious if serious, i.e. you would hear it or see it. But a fault in a cam/crank/02/MAF/coolant sensor or coil/sparker/injector may need a diagnostic check to identify it. It can be guess work if you don't get a diagnostic and you end up replacing parts that are not faulty. Andrew |

Have you had a diagnostic check done on it yet? Until you have this done, anything is just guess work I'm afraid. |

My 535 had same problem turned out to be the air flow mass meter. Had dia done showed nothing but a friend said try that and it worked do you have a miss fire at about 3000 revs ? also another cause could be the lamba sensor this can cause the same and surgin too

having read all comments here and spoken to a guy at CA auto and spoken to a mate with a 325i with sinilar problems (power/on/off symtoms) my course of action is Lambda AMM Coils Injector Cleaning & inspection I know its lots of cash but that should cover any and all things it could possibly be.... I have also been told that doing the above work to a car of that age is a really good idea anyway.... Will let you all know how i get on... |

hi, does the missfire get worse under load...ie high gear and low revs up hill? if so i'd edge my bets on an intermittent coil break down. if it is this then it would'nt show up on a diagnistic check as would'nt a plug breaking down but as to which one- well could either have a kv check done and hope the intermittent fault is present, change the lot (very pricey) or buy one and try it in each pot for a couple of days to see if the fault persists.... just a thought.
