Topic: Removing the bootlid badges Posted: 28-February-2003 at 12:36 |
Me again!
The area in and around my bootlid badge, which reads "318iS" is filthy - full of the previous owner's polish and dirt deposits. Consequently, tomorrow the old badge is coming off to allow me to properly clean this portion of the car and a gleaming new one will be replacing it.
However, does anyone have any tips for removing these stuck-on badges without damaging the underlying paint?

Use a hairdryer and heat up the badge and the area around it, then use something like a credit card to ease it off - it'll move fairly easily once heated.
Then use a tar remover to get rid of the excess glue...

As kdevitt says, a hairdryer is a big help. I used fishing line to good efect once I had heated it up. Then T-Cut/White Spirit to get rid of the gunk. Now you can't even tell there has been a badge there :-)

Or even hot water will work lovely, and the t cut white spirit combo works a treat on the black glue.

I've just removed mine too. A Hairdryer to soften the gunk, a credit card sized piece of plastic to scrape off the badge, some white spirit and a cloth. Patience with the white spirit, and T-cut wasn't necessary. But I can understand that it could be necessary, say on an older car, to blend any fading to the paintwork.
Looks like there never was one there!
