Topic: E30 Door Lock Posted: 12-June-2003 at 13:38 |
The door lock on my E30 has started giving trouble - it will lock if you push down the pin, but then can't be opened again with the key. First thing I thought of is that the central locking solenoid is gone. Am going to try and get the parts from German & Swedish or Eurocarparts, but then someone else mentioned it might be the lock itself that was gone. Anyone else experience any problems with the locks on their E30? |

ok - think i'll try that first then. Did you have a separate key for the lock & ignition or is there a way of getting the new barrel to work with your old key??

if you get the key number (from the side of the barrel) you give it to BMW (possibly with logbook evidence of ownership) they can get you one within a few days - IIRC about €50

good point eamo - i'm getting a laserline alarm fitted, theres one in there at the moment but its not great - doesn't activate the locks either.. Still handy for the key the be able to work - i have recent enough memories of having to climb into my honda civic through the boot cos the door wouldn't open!!! |

well if you choose a different make - don't get an RM / Sikura alarm - they protect the car alright (hasn't been taken yet) but the fobs are the worst feckin kind around. I often have to force the button down hard just to turn on / off and you usually need to be close to the car for them to work.

Well a guy I do some work for can supply and fit the laserline alarms for €200 or so, which is cheap enough. A fairly happy with Laserline to be honest - had a roler alarm before which had a mind of its own...

I don't sell alarms so I'm independant, but I think all of these brands are rubbish, Sigma from Safe & Sound in Dundalk 042 9339000 (also an M3 owner) super quality waterproof blips etc
