Alan

I'd be up for that.

I think the organisers of the north east meet (first Wed of mth) are thinking of organising something??

Cheers

I think this is a great idea, but I'm hoping that we're talking next year?

Diary's already showing:-

  • 24/10/04 Donnington
  • 07/11/04 Howards' day on the North Yorkshire Railway
  • 21/11/04 Sunday lunch at the Honest Lawyer (Croxdale), followed by a visit to the new National Railway Museum annex at Shildon - just waiting final details. (I didn't realise that Howard already had a railway themed day organised)
  • ?/12/04 Xmas meal

That's this year taken care of already

Cheers, Mick

The 'True North East' are definately up for this. We discussed it last night at our meeting.

I think that the trick with this would be to spread the work by involving folk from two areas - one to deal with the departure and the other to deal with the arrival. I know that the organisation would be huge, with permission from land owners of the departure/arrival points etc., but nothing's impossible. I've already identified a large open air disused bus station on the Team Valley Trading Estate at Gateshead as a departure/arrival point, depending on the route. It's just off the A1, about a mile north from the Angel of the North. It has a proper hard standing so there would be no problems, and has good communications in all directions. We also had a suggestion for a pub carpark at Woodhorn, Ashington in Northumberland.

Any suggestions or comments from anyone?

Cheers, Mick

Hi Guy's,
I'm guilty of not spending enough time on the N.E Forum and would love to go to the "True North East"meet's but my partner goes to college every Wed.(mature student)!!!!!! I have to baby sit!!
Point is I live 2min's from Darlington,10 min's from Croft and work as a Sales Manager in Darlington For a car Sales Co. With load's of parking spaces, got the key's and could park 50 cars 10min's from croft any day of the week, with coffee, tea toilet's etc on tap.
Any help for your Idea's??????????

I'm not sure whether you want a track day or a road trip or both!

Al and Floody, are you up for any of the events I've listed earlier on this topic? Once we've finalised the times I'll get some proper postings on here.

You've made a good point Floody, there's never much on the NE forum - have you seen Scotland's - they have more in a day than we get in a week?

Cheers, Mick

Mick, I think a road trip would be good,N.E. to N.W, Newcastle to Whithaven, or something along those line's???
Will try to get to the next " N.E" meet + Should be able to do Nov. 21st. May not make the lunch (Birthday on the 20th) but will see if we can get to the railway museum at Shildon, only 5min's up the road, take it Kid's are welcome???

Al, love your idea, but that would take some organising, plus pos overnight stop's so the money goes up, how about we try something small to start and see how we get on??

Nice to see you back Grahame
