Cheers for all the support lads but I have come terms with the grief and me and the M have emmotionally parted so its the first stage of a painfull divorce.

Guy looked at it, seemed fairly interested so we'll - bit of a BMW head so if he's comes back and takes it I'll make membership of the club a condition of sale.

Well if I had that kinda cash I'd have your arm off for it at that price. It looks a minter and has even had me thinking of ways to get that kinda money (post office hold-up, faking my own death). Its gorgeous, and I've openly said the next BMW I'll buy will either be an Z4 or an M3. Best of luck with it anyway my friend and hope you get over the separation. I've never quite gotten over my 328

Martin - Buy an old banger to hack around in - thats what I did.

I drive a 1990 corrolla dsl van during the week. Cost me €400 and insured it for €670 starting on a new policy.

Well - she's still with me and here is the replacement workhorse.

Some change in cars - bit of a polar opposite I'd say, anyway picking her up next week and will not be punishing the big girl anymore - except maybe a bit of indulgenece until she sells - maybe this will sort all the proplems and she won't have to go.

Dec 97 Passat TDi Estate Sport - 110bhp, climate control, sports interior, leather sports wheel, full history, just over 4,000 yo yos cleared.

Those passats are grand... surprisingly the 1.9tdi pulls reasonably well. Its a damn sight slower than the evo, but its not a total tragedy.

Paul - purely functional, does it exactly what it says on the tin.

Ecconomical, roomy, safe, comfy, cheap to run / tax / insure and completly BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thing is I can have clients / suppliers with me in the car so it has to be something that is reasonably decent.

Figured if I was going to be miserable - better be miserable and saving money.......

the tdi is supposed to be a great car.  Digweed test drove one, and it had him pushed right into the seat under acceleration.

TDi so not the full TDi 130bhp version but the VRT on those newer models is at least 5 times more than this one.  Anyway I think both will be a little down on power considering what I'm used to.

For not too much monies a tuningbox will sort that out easy... I've heard great stuff about them, and they're just a plug and play ecu "piggyback" unit. And no, i'm not on commission :)

The UK 110bhp diesel was the original red eye.  The 90bhp was just tdi.  Red dee-eye was 130 and red tee-dee-eye was 150 I believe.

Sensible solution Martin.  Might offer a way out of disposal.  I think you said before that you have storage available, could you cover the M under the contents insurance for that and just temporarily transfer the insurance every once in a while for a day out with it?  That might keep the standing costs to a manageable level.

Now: BMW 523i SE '00, 318i SE - e91 '07, 325i Coupe '93.

Prev:
e46 328i SE Touring, 330Ci, 318Ci.

e36 325i Coupe *2, 323i SE, 316iSE.
e30 325iSE 2dr, 320i Conv, 320i 2dr, 316i.

Diarmuid - I was thinking about that. I could keep her in the warehouse over the winter which was my original plan.  Sorting out the insurance company will be more interesting as I don't know how they take to swapping polices between two cars on a regular basis.

Difficulty is that I am taking a few hits on property and a wedding this year so funds are running out the door at an alarming rate.

I'll just wait and see how things progress

The 150 tdi(red t red d red i) was never sold here in the passat, I dont think there was one in the 1.9 diesel passat, only the golf. Sometimes the tuning boxes aint needed as the PD (pump duse) engines always give more than they say they are, for example my everyday car is  a 2003 PD150 Golf which put out 172.5 in westward and it should be a 150 car like the 1.8T GTi.

The PD engines are great, once the 6 speed gearbox does'nt go like mine did, its been in the garage the last 3 weeks getting fixed, VW wanted €4500, they are getting €1043.

True about the Passat - was thinking of the UK like Martins new car.

Is your car not still under warranty?

Nope, I bought it Jan 2003, it only has a 2 year warranty, although VW did pay 70% materials and the garage paid half the labour. Even though the car has 80k on it,this crap should'nt happen, it has been serviced every 10k bang on in the same VW garage where I bought it.
