Four Questions...

1) What does it cost today and what do the subscribers get?

2) What do subscribers actually want?

3) How much are they willing to pay for what they want?

Finally (and most importantly)

4) What is your unique selling point? What can you offer Joe BMW that he can't get elsewhere?

All over the world people actively subscribe to all kind of clubs. The successful one offer either something very hard to get elsewhere or something so complete that the punter would be mad not to pay a small subscription for the service.

Only when you decide exactly what it is you are selling can you start selling it.

The membership is €50, paid through the BMWCC GB.

Discounts and support.

No idea.

As you can see on the forum, the club offers a very good advice system, where, if you have a problem, you'll nearly always get very good advice on how/where to get it sorted.  However, this is all available without being a member; you only have to register on the forum.  As well as that, there is a backround social scene; I've had a couple of weekends away with people from the club, as well as meeting some great people at some of the events.

The membership allows you discounts with companies like GSF, some dealers, some specialists, tyre offers, and a magazine each month.  It also lets you participate in things like the specialised track days organised through the club in Kirkistown and Mondello.

I hope this answers your points - I'm sure others will have benefits to outline that I haven't remembered!!!

That'll do - trying to mock up one of those cards for us to see if they might help.

I'll tell you what immediately springs to mind. I bought my E46 on Christmas eve last and immediately went looking for info. (My first BEEMER. Aww). It was almost the end of Jan by the time I found this site. I registered, got an intro to alan at ACC and got my leaking expansion chamber fixed. Result!

It's now the middle of Feb and nobody has asked me to join nor is there anything on the site jumping out at me suggesting I should consider joining or what to do if I wanted to.

Most people are like me in that they will just point and click away happily unless someone introduces the idea of becoming even more involved. I'm not going to go searching for ways to lighten my wallet unless I want something back for it.

Before you spend any cash on cards or anything else you need improve your position on Google and then mail every single person on your data base and ask them to support you. (You won't fill your tank for €50.00). This is a cheap as chips solution to generating at least some revenue whilst you work out other plans.

I believe some philosopher once said 'IF YOU DON'T ASK YOU WON'T RECEIVE!'...or maybe that was me!

Maybe, but the idea of these are simple in the sense that you print your own so it doesn't cost a fortune... it's still early in the year, things pick up in the spring and through the summer time.

You'll love this, signed up distribution for these mad machines - great fun and will be launching at the Golf Dhow in the RDS.

Was thinking about one with a board (see below) on the front with the BMW site logo and web address.  Reckon it would make the papers and TV on the novelty factor.

Only have Paint but you get the idea

So there you go - another venture started, it'll be interesting to gauge the publics reaction and as yet we are targeting industrial applications, golf and non public road use activities.  BTW they are great fun.

Let the slagging and hype begin...................

Yeah I like the Segways.. they've applied that technology to wheelcharies that can balance on 2 wheels and have the occupant @ head height.. clever stuff.

Does the GT have a diff fitted?

The wheelchair is the iBot, does stairs also. Inventor is Dean Karmen, clever guy.  We have to head over to the factory in the US in the next few weeks so that should be interesting

Diff..... No - but have traction control, the way they handle is mental. Top speed is 20kph and max range is 40k's. Once you want to turn, they are going to turn and if your not ready for it, you'll keep going straight. Steering is speed sensiitive so for the higer speeds it reacts a lot quicker.

Anyway - back to Fey's topic, I thought that if some one was running something in a parade with a few of the older cars you could have one for the day and I'd get the club info done up for it.

Just my 2c worth

Anyone in a position to run with organising something in the parade - I'm the wrong end of the country for it! (could we find a couple of 1600/2002's in green, white and gold?  I'm thinking the 1600 that was at Mondello the last day!)

Fey - I'd say Dublin is a closed shop.  Too much of the arty Mardis Gras thing, tryimh to hide the commercial aspect of everything form the checking I've been doing.

I reckon you'd be better going for one of the bigger reqional ones - Galway, Limerick, Cork or Athlone.  Is there any other large gear head get together planned.  The other option would be to look at some of the car shows.

What about the clublogo on one of those phone download sites??? Spend 300-500 lids on a Google pay per click campaign???

I'd say Galway wouldn't work - streets too narrow, and a lot of the Macnas thing going on. (don't get me wrong - the Macnas parades are excellent, but wouldn't lend itself well to a bunch of cars!)

There will be a write up about our day in Mondello tomorrow 10/05/06 in the Irish Times Motoring supplement in the Emissions column by Killian Doyle.

here it is...
[from here]
Quote Ah, the pure bliss of beemerdom
Kilian Doyle

I know I harp on a lot about my Bavarian Princess (a BMW 1990 E30 316i, to be exact) and you are probably fed up of it. But it does attract attention.

Not least from the BMW Car Club of Ireland, who recently invited us to Mondello for one of their track days. I didn't have to think twice.

We rolled up to Mondello one recent Saturday to be greeted by a convivial bunch of lads and their glorious cars. From a little treasure of a track-prepared 2002 to a pair of brand-new M3 CSLs, the whole gamut of beemerdom was in situ, ready to rip.

The pitlane was a hive of car nuts, nattering excitedly, swopping compliments, driving advice, mechanical expertise and tips for sourcing parts. Bit like a book club. Only on wheels. And held at a hundred miles an hour amidst the screech of tyres and plumes of smoke. So, not like a book club at all, really.

I was signed in as a passenger and club members immediately started offering me lifts.

First was with Brendan in his E30 318is. We were split into novice and expert groups. We went off in the former. If you ask me, he was in the wrong group. We tore through the field, overtaking seven cars in eight laps. Brendan was, to say the least, a bit of a demon.

Next was TJ in his 286 bhp E36 M3. He'd just bought it and it was a bullet. TJ was no slouch himself. We ripped around the track like pros, TJ pushing it harder and harder each lap. Too hard, eventually.

We span off at an S-bend into a pile of muck for a bit of gardening. We were both grinning too much to mind.

On to Stephen's 840i. Easily the most comfortable, and possibly best-looking, car on the track. She was lush, he was chilled, I loved it.

And then there was Tomas, who rocked up with an entourage of 20 fellow Lithuanians to watch him put his hugely-modified E36 325 through its paces. It went like a bouncing bomb. He squealed through every corner on his slick tyres, undertaking and overtaking all comers. He smoked them all, M3s, M5s, everyone. The fact that it was left-hand drive made it all the more intense for me. I hope the videocamera he had bolted to his car didn't catch my constant expression of raw terror. I needed a little sit down when I got out, I'm sad to admit.

Finally, I was belted into the E46 M3 of Brian - the Driftmeister. We went round the whole track sideways, doing 80 around corners others were crawling around in second gear. The G-force had me shoved back in the seat, flattened like I was made of plasticine. It was awesome.

There were other cars I rode in, but space prevents me from listing all, sorry. There were other cars I would have loved to have had a go in, particularly a stripped-out BMW 2002 model from the 1970s that was easily keeping pace with cars thirty years younger. Next time, eh?

All present were at pains to point out that they weren't boyracers. The whole point of track days is to find out what the cars are capable of, without putting anyone at risk. There were a few offs, a few cars bashed up a bit, but nothing major. And, most importantly, nobody got hurt.

It was a complete blast. By the end of the day, my kidneys hurt from being walloped off my ribcage and my face ached from laughing like a hysterical hyena.

A few asked when I'd be venturing onto the track in the Princess. I love her too much to put her through that. Anyway, the M3 CSL I'll be buying once the people in the National Lottery fix their stupid machines and stop them pumping out the wrong numbers would be far more suitable, don't you think?
