That'll be the VG2 radar detector detection system that the police use abroad (not here, yet!), most detectors have an anti-VG2 feature

Can anyone recommend a GPS Navigation system which has speed camera detection as part of the package?

Cheers

Stephen,

I have purchased an HP iPAQ 4150 with the bluetooth tomtom software and it is excellent! Thanks for the recommendation!

I have tried to use the link above so I can download the Speed camera data but it didn't seem to work? Do you know where I can download it from?

Once again many thanks for the info

Cheers

Hi Grahame, I've just tried this link and it appears to be okay:

http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php

You can get your speed, sorry safety , camera databases for tomtom on there

keep me updated on how the ipaq performs, pc world seem to have a good deal on the tomtom one at the moment, but i've yet to take the plunge and buy one - the kirrio one that was on sale at makro mentioned in the other thread was sold out - staff got first dibs i reckon!

Steven

I have been using Ipaq and the tom tom software for a few months in all very good, takes a bit of setting up but once this is done the speed camera, or as you say saftey camera (cough cough) (goverment money spinner),warnings match those from my origin b2.

In all well impressed there are a couple of poi handler links of the tom tom web site, I use the "navigating.de" one, you can also download red light cameras, warnings of on way streets etc.

Oh and there is a link that you can change the voice, I have a very nice lady with a German accent warning me.

As for deals got mine off ebay £300 ipaq, tom tom 3, and full car fitting kit.

All the best Mick

Mick

That was a good deal I bought mine tax free from Dixon's London Gatwick and it cost:-

iPAQ 4150 - £224

TomTom software - £170

TomTom Car Kit - Included as part of the bundle

I am having trouble downloading the Safety Camera Database at the moment but glad that it is working OK for you. Which one did you download?

Cheers

There is a link on the tomtom website, some of the voice files have changed since I did mine, it's in the add on page, where you can download voice, map colours etc.

Stephen

The standard TomTom Navigator 3 (latest release) comes with various female and male voices as standard you just choose when setting it up.

One other point to remember.... the HP iPAQ comes in various models and memory sizes I bought a iPAQ 4150 (new model) with 64mb of memory but you will need at least 150mb (I think!!!??) to download all the maps etc so you will need to add on a few quid for an SDA card I went OTT and bought a 512mb card for £85 at PC World. If you are buying a bundle offer they may have an extra card included??

Happy shopping!!

cheers Grahame, I've just bought a bundle with the HP ipaq 2210, and wired tomtom nav 3 with car kit from pc world for £399, an additional 128mb sd card cost me another £30 (can always buy a bigger card l8r, its got the all the uk maps which will do for now)

very impressed, im just reading through the instructions for adding the speed camera database at the mo, i chose "Jane (GB)" for the voice prompts, who have you got?

a nice compliment to my bel 550 radar/laser detector, tomtom tells where the cameras are, bel tells me if the gatsos are live or not and keeps an eye out for the mobile laser talivans
