There is a registry mod to get the File menu bar to the top on IE7...unsupported of course (done by third party) works fine on my IE7.

Click to download

That's the only customisable interface mod I am aware of.. any more out there?

IE7 installed ok on my laptop, but on my PC it won't run the "runonce" page (error on page). I've done a google search and it seems to be a common problem. Solutions vary, but common ones require you to edit some of the Registry entries - however, these keys don't appear.

Update - checked out this site MSFN and found a solution.
(Create the keys using a batch file) now working ok.

PC had another go at installing IE7, and failed again.

Still on IE6.

are you logged on with an administrator account?

does it give an error code for the failure?

you don't see anywhere on the internet explorer 7 installation screen or windows update screen that says error [0xccc938] or something like that?

check administrative tools/event viewer/"application" for any red circles with white crosses around the time that you tried installing IE7 - are there any listed?  open some of them up, they should give you codes and descriptions, type them out on here

our company does not yet support IE7.  You can hide the update through AD group policy.

But for home users, I guess they could just select the hide update option until the issues are ironed out.

I have yet to install it myself.

check to see that "compress disk contents to save space" is not selected in the properties page of drive c:  (right-click local disk c...properties) - if it is, untick the box and try installing ie7 again

make sure you don't have any of these running while you're trying to install ie7, or any other spam blocking or popup blocking software.... (temporarily disable them if you do)

Download Accelerator
Download Accelerator Plus
GetRight
Browser Blaster
Pop-up blocker
BitTorrent
PC-cillin - WebTrap component
eMule
Surfin Guard Pro
Sygate Personal Firewall
Norton Internet Security
Freedom Firewall
Zone Alarm Firewall

Once you've confirmed that you haven't, or they're disabled, then download and unzip this... run the wufix.bat batch file that is contained within the archive

http://castlecops.com/zx/negster22/WUFix.zip

again, try installing ie7... let me know how you're getting on

Err, hang on, aren't we missing the point here?

WHY do you want to load IE7?

Is IE6 broken?

(I've said it before - but I'll say it again....... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!)

Didn't you tell me earlier that there was no choice?

It was an "automatic update"

it is an automatic update, but you can uninstall it if you don't like it

mr tan isn't even getting the chance to install it in the first place... not so much for ie7 but think of the security patches in the future that also may not be able to be installed because of this glitch...

yes, and no problems to report... had to remove it on a few clients computers... cause merry hell with hp scanner software and with bt broadband help program (although you can get round it by renaming psapi.dll in the bt broadband\help directory, it will pick up the ie7 psapi.dll file instead)
