I have recently bought an E39 523i SE Steptronic Auto and have filled her up 3 times now.

I am getting 30.0 MPG on the cars computer.  Is this o.k. or should it be better?  I am never too believing of manufacturers figures.  The best thing to do is ask other owners, I think.

I commute in it for about 28 miles there and back thru all conditions of driving, city centre, Motorway and toodle thru a few 30 and 40 limits.

Any thoughts or comments?

Andrew

My 525 manual touring gives me about 31 on a combined cycle of driving. I get about 35 on dual carriage ways and about 26 on an urban cycle.

What you are getting sounds about right.

Andrew

On a '97 523i manual I am getting an average of about 34 with most of my driving being longer runs on the open road, so 30 from mixed driving in an auto isn't bad going.

I'm in a 535i, and the book says total mixed 28mpg; I do a very
similar run to you and I struggle to get better than 26mpg, so your
figures look reasonable, although I might have expected around
32mpg.    By the way, Andrew, where do you stay?

Cheers

Richard.

my e46 323ci says 30.x average according to the OBC, my slog to work is a 42 mile trip there and back over a mix of 60mph a-roads, with a couple of 30 and 40 limit towns, i average about 420 miles to the tankful, your consumption sounds about right to me too

Andrew

Inchture, outside Dundee; ( of "The Beano" fame!)

Not sure where Houston is, I'm new to Scotland, although I was
born in Forres many years ago.   Scot by birth. . . . . .
