took my 540 auto to silverstone on sunday to trax.went on track twice, what a laugh! weelspin out of all the tight corners(no l.s.d yet)the only thing is it rolled quite a lot through the bends.i dont really want to alter the springs as they are fine on the road.what i want to know is do any of the other models have thicker anti roll bars.does the m5 have the thickest ones or is it something obscure like a 518 or a diesel.also are there any after market kits for these.any help much appreciated.cheers

The thickest are the 20mm ones from the M5 touring, or the 19mm ones from the M5.

Unfortunately even the M5 rolls a lot

Guessing you were 'going some' in the picture, I run a '94 E34 5 speed with the Nurburgring option and experience less roll than I've had on other cars - even with the EDC on P.....

The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those who think.

Yes, I was 'going some' in the picture (at Prestwold Hall), and it is great fun once you get over the 30 degree lean on some fast or left-right-left corners. My 'modified' Corrado was almost flat in these corners though (can't find a picture from Prestwold Hall, but the one below is at Silverstone), but a bit harsh on the road.

You should only notice a difference between the setting when you are not 'pushing on' as the 'P' setting should take accoutn of your speed and cornering forces to stiffen up into 'S' mode anyway.

Take a gander at the link below, there's some good info on this site...

http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/suspensions.htm

Also, you may find adjustable dampers will help in controlling the rate at which the car rolls.  By being adjustable, you can have a nice road setting and a bit more stiff for the track.  Ideally you need to match your tyres, springs, dampers, anti-roll, suspension geometry, etc. But, if you're only going to do the odd track day, then it's probably not worth it.  You'd be getting into track day special territory.  And not to be too harsh on your motor, but there are better specials out there!
