As some of you on here might know from e36coupe.com, i've been having a bit with my motor the last few months. While it was a 320 the HG blew and Vanos was rattling like fcuk, gearbox had no oil in it and did damage to 2nd gear. Embarassed

SO I came across an M52 2.5L engine and gearbox complete with all ancillaries. My installation started a few months ago and the engine/box was in in a few days. However, it was never to run right since. Having to use the 320 ECU due to the 2.5 having EWS ( immobliser) I ran into allsorts of difficulties with sensors, fuelling, misfiring, backfiring etc and just about tried everything to sort it until I had no option but to fit the BMW EWS immobiliser system into my car and run the proper loom and ECU. I then had to order the "original" key from Germany as it was coded to match the EWS and ECU . Mad Mad Mad

At first, it was a scary thought until we got the wiring diags/schematics for the EWS and sorted out exactly what we needed from the mess we ripped out of the crashed car. (Anyone who has seen the pics on here will know what i mean !!!) . But we got through it bit by bit, took our time and did everything to a very high std ( if I do say so myself !!). Wink Cool

When all this was complete we would have been happy if the car started ! And it did. No misfiring etc. However, it was very lumpy at idle, felt very sluggish at low revs so we decided to investigate further and found the airflow meter was most definitely at fault. Mad

Well, I replcaed this yesterday and it now goes like a dream. Maybe a little flat spot at 2-2500k revs but i believe this is charachteristic of this motor and I'm more than happy.....result ! Very Happy

I've been at this car soo much lately i feel my there's gonna be an emptiness inside me now!!! What am I going to do next ?? I think I'll just have to polish and wax it to death to keep myself busy !!! Cool

Anyway.....CONVERSION A COMPLETE SUCCESS Very Happy
Wink

Ken.

Hi Ken

Well done on the job. I'm interested to know how you found that the air flow meter was faulty as my 316 seem's to have a similiar problem. I would love to be able to trouble shoot this little annoyance.

Got me an induction kit, well it was ken's to begin with, bigcrybut since his motor was actually worse with the induction kit fitted, had a broken air mass meter housing, and not having the 323 air box.....well the obvious answer was to swop, wasn't it !!!! bigok he!he!he!

Now i'm pushing out a few more horses I recon. Def pulling a lot better through the rev range especially at low down revs, and growl's like mad at high revs. No more flat spots at 2,500 revs.Well chuffed a_smil17a_smil17a_smil17 Lookin forward to meeting on oct weekend.

Anybody else like to come along to cork on Oct weekend, day TBA, we just need to arrange a time and a place.

Cheer'sbeerchug

we'll have to get in touch with Ken G as well ( aka Simatic). I'm sure he'd be on. Got a few more buddies who'd probably come along also.

Isnt there a rally on the Oct weekend or something ?? Is it the Cork 20 ?

Rgds,
Ken.
