So, so tempting.

Ivan will you please stop this

eBayitis is bad enough without your assistance.

Seriously it does look a very, very nice car.

Can somebody explain what these parts are?

Quote from the ebay advert.

"If you take the buy it now option I will include a spare fron air dam,
an Alpina flip up rear spoiler and also rear aerofoil set (2 uprights, wing and Flip-up spoiler)."

That is a beautiful car and I'm not normally a fan of classics. Not sure about the colour though.

Ivan, do you work for Ebay? Big Smile

What's wrong with white? Classic colour for a CSL.

Maybe this ended auction is more to your taste, colour wise.

These headrests would be a nice addition to this CSL which appears to be missing them.

The original "Bat" had a Rear Areofoil with 2 vertical side cheeks & Blade into cheeks on bootlid. A small Lip deflector above top of rear window, which deflected Air onto boot spoiler. On German Market sold cars, the Spoilers were NOT fixed but in the boot. The Politzei would not allow the use on German Reg cars.Front Air Dam was flat fronted , and not wind tunnel designed.

My front Uk spoiler, was slightly turned up at bottom edge, which pushed the front of car down.Had it Mirror signwriten CSL on ends.

I had the Headrests as shown in separate Ebay, got a feeling they were from Alpina.(think about NO headrests in those days--makes you go cold !!!!!!!)

Interesting CSL, Dont think that white was original??.Would want to see the first 3 and last 3 VIN numbers.Rims look 16" not 14" as was.Biggest Prob then as now--- reaction between inner steel door frame and Ali skin panels--by the time the bubble,s started to show on the door face, it was all too late--like the worm WE used to call it.

Had 2 of them, the last one for 22 years.Paranoid -can come into it , and Kevin--she WAS a Nordschleife  girl--knew her way Blindfolded!!!!

John, Thanks for explaining the rear wing etc question. Should the full kit include the front wing air guides?

I didn't know you had 2 bats, I bet they were great fun around the NS, once you had forgotten how much they are worth.

Interesting comment about the white not being an original colour. My dream one would be Silver.

I Have never seen another white one but  acording to jaymic catalog csl`s were available in Polaris silver ,Fjord Blue, Ceylon Gold, Golf Yellow, Incka Orange and Chamonix White. I stll favour Polaris silver personaly.

As to the spoiler kit in still unsure if they add any thing. I have a full Aero Kit (genuine bmw one) and debate putting it on weekly. I think the car looks stunning with out with just nicely understated and gets more stop and stares than any other car I`ve ever owned. And the money the change hands for has too be this years bargin.

If you look at prices for simular cars 911 RSL at £85k ,911 2.4 s £25k, Aston DB 6 £50k, Aston Martin DB v8 £32k they are all more costly to run and more common.

I love mine and think out of all my cars its would be the one that would hurt the most to part with...

Try a ferrari dino 246GT. Same age and less common and possible the most beautifull car ever made, followed by the 911.rs and then the batmobile.

Hi all

As we are on the subject some further thoughts....Firstly I think that some of you will have seen this car - I beilve it's John Kyles and appeared at a coupe event in July/August.

On the batmobile wing kit kit there were 2 factory designs on the boot spoiler - one had two suppports and the later three as the horizontal blade deflected too much.

As for colour the "proper" batmobiles were limited generally to silver and white (and should remain so in my opinion, however there are are a small number of genuine bats in other colours). Normal csl's were avialable in many more BMW 70's colours - I should know with Golf Yellow..............it grows on you I promise.

Finally just a thought - I think we are all a little too "loose" on what we accept as a batmobile here on the forum and in the UK.....as you probably know final numbers still remain a mystery and depend on who you talk to but a genuine bat is exceptionally rare and shouldn't be lumped with the "ordinary" csl.....

Mango

PS. Mark - I'm obviously very biased but agree with your comments and think they are very special and often undervalued....

The Wing Splitters were all part of THE Kit.

The then 72-75  ETC was a battle between the CSL and Ford Capri,s.With Bell & icxk in CSL, s fighting with Mass for the  73 championships, + Hans Stuck, Ronnie Petersen,Brian Redman in the US Imsa series, all working for Jochen Neerpasch-THE BMW Competition Guru.

The ETC Series Won by a Faltz -Alpina CSL in 75. 30 Years ago , Hans Stuck went out in a CSL and set a New Lap record(Old Nordschleife inc the Loop 22+ Km ( at 8 Min 10-9 sec)

They said that the Wing Kits increased the Rear Downforce by 100Kg!!, and they gained 50 BHP!!!!!!!!!!! it won themTHREE ETC series.

I saw the 800 BHP Turbocharged "M" 320i (The New RACING CSL) of Ronnie Petersen, line up on the Silverstone Front row grid with a - j icxk in a 934 Turbo porsche-- Both a spouting Flames , in I think 78.

Just think at that time--A Formula 1 World Championship in a Brabham-BMW Turbo,  was just a dream in someone,s eye .

REAL Bats were LHD.

Agree with mango,  on the sentiments, and GOLF is THE BIZ.What other Coupe in its day, achieved SO much, with SO Little fanfares as a Super Autobahn eater.

911,s for breakfast up the GrossGlockner pass, and with a family of 4 inc luggage. What was that about the Ferrari 246 ??, WE didnt need the AA/RAC services. So reliable.

I've seen this car in the flesh twice. It was originally
Inca orange and was not a Batmobile but a UK spec
CSL with full trim. Bodily it was exceptionally solid
but had a terrible repaint - under the bonnet was
disgusting. The outer sill covers are missing, but
they're only £85 each
With a bare metal paint job it would be a very nice car
indeed but £11'500 is way too much. I paid just over
half that for mine, another Inca car with basically 1
owner. It was in the Total BMW buyers guide a year
ago. It wasn't structurally as nice as this one as it
had received various new bits welded in but it was a
very pretty car. I sold it for just over £8000 but sadly, it
suffered a massive underbonnet fire shortly after and
was written off. The new owner recieved a big payout
(insured for £12'000 I believe) and bought another
one a fortnight later.
As far as I am aware, it can't go back on the road
again but negotiations are underway to buy the
remains and convert it into a race car. We'll see.....

CSL's are nice ornaments but as a car, you can do
better. A manual 635CSi for example or for £11'500,
a perfect M6.

I find mine a a lot more use than an ornament .......... and I havent yet found ant thing that comes close let alone better.

I'll second Marc on that........I use mine all the time and it's reliable as anything! As for driver pleasure that's subjective and I wouldn't like to argue here at length but if classics are your thing then enjoyment is far in excess of the insulated cacoon of a 635 (which I think is lovely but in a different way to a "classic" classic....)

I'll also admit that the ornament thing can't be exaggerated - I had people smiling, pointing and waving at the car half way round the M25 today...it might have something to do with the "special" colour though.....
