There is a fund alright - seems fairly straightforward, but have to wait ten days for the guy to turn up at a garda station with his insurance first.

Reckon I won't be seeing the car back till December to be honest. Thats if its fixable.

hopefully you and anyone in the car with you are alright! If he was uninsured why the need to wait 10 days?

Because despite the fact that his details were out of date, the gardai give him the benefit of the doubt for a full ten days!

Have a claims handler friend doing some investigation - will hopefully get things moving tomorrow.

Was only me in the car - shaken up, and shoulder feels like I've been shot, but will hopefully feel better soon...

That's a shame.  I know what its like.  Had someone run into me a few months back, just 6 weeks after I bought the car.  Its hard to put in words how angry it makes you feel.

I'm sure its no consolation now, but in a couple of days, when the dust settles, you'll begin to realize that the most important thing is that you weren't hurt, or anyone else, other than the jerk.

Cars, even when they are your pride and joy, can be fixed or replaced.

Piece of p**s Ken. Hope it works out OK. I was witness to a hit and run two weekends ago in Liffey Valley when a Vectra rear ended a Pug 607. Vectra did a runner over the grass divide with water streaming from its front.

Everyone in the Pug was fine - and very little obvious damage but the guy was left in a mess.

What a lousy week Ken, it hurts when you put so
much effort into something only to have it end like
that. At least you were not too badly hurt.

Cheers lads - seems to be sorted out at this stage. Have a few friends in useful places, so was able to find out he's not insured with any of the major companies in Ireland - only two left to check now. Was also able to find out that he's never taxed the vehicle.

My NCB should remain intact - Hibernian are pushing the claim through the uninsured drivers fund, so its all going quickly, and if he does produce an insurance cert from his magic hat than it'll go against his policy.

Had the shoulder checked out in hospital - theres no major damage just a very sore neck at back at the moment.

Car is being picked up from Templemore either today or Tuesday, and will be evaluated as soon as its back in Dublin.

I've had trouble in the past with a driver who wouldn't admit liability but luckily I called the Gardai and they did a report on the matter. I needed to get in contact with my solicitor though, to expedite my claim as the guilty party was sitting on the issue and her insurance company weren't getting much good of her.

Hope it all works out for you Ken, and usually if you push these matters they do work out in the end, but they do take time. Thankfully you weren't injured and while it is your pride and joy, metal can be repaired or replaced.

Car arrived at Soraghans a few minutes ago - is awaiting an engineer to look at it. Guy reckons it'll take between a week and two weeks to repair, and about €6K - but that its almost definitely fixable.

Did you get any photos of the damage (to post up)? Bit morbid of me I know.... but interested in what E6k of damage looks like. ie E6k as an insurance assessment versus E6k of getting the car done yourself. There's a big difference.

Ken that is making me to see that done to the Ultimate Driving Machine I hope the dealer does a good repair and make sure that they return it as good as new. The other driver must have been jealous of you and tried to kill you looking at the point of impact and they weren't going to stop til they got into your car but the old Beemers are built like tanks anyway so their attempt was pointless
