I was after one of the Fly ones ages ago, but my local model shop doesn't sell Fly anymore as it's too expensive, and the stock wasn't moving.

I've got one of the old Scalextric ones, that handle like a lumpy sponge and the quality isn't nearly as good as Fly.

The Fly cars shown at the top of this page are from the USA, not sure if they are imported into GB yet.

Rhys

To improve the handling on Scalextric cars fit a small magnet as close as possible to the rear axle.

When I was a kid playing with Scalextric at my friends house the cars would always fly off the track and I got annoyed with this and went back to playing with my train set.

However when I was 21 I was given a Scalextric set (at last!) which had a pair of Minis and mounted just in front of the rear (driven) axle was a small but powerful magnet.  What a difference it made in keeping the cars on the track.

You can still tail slide them round the bends though, its a fine balance point as once you go too far the magnet looses its 'grip' on the steel slots and bang you are off with no warning!

Andrew,

I've done all that allready still handles like a stuck pig as it wobbles around all over the place, it is an old 'un and is mainly part of my small BMW collection. The M1 is the same, but being a bir rarer I haven't done out to it. With thease old ones, its just a good laugh trying to keep on the track
The new ones however are so fast they make your eyes go funny trying to keep up with them, and I must say the detail on the newer Scalextric cars is fantastic and can quite easely be shown as models (with the guide blades un-clipped)

Hornby have improved their tooling on both Scalextric and their model trains by changing production to China and making people redundant over here.  Its cheaper to pay Chinese workers and ship their products half way around the globe and improve the quality, hence why prices haven't really gone up much in the last few years but the quality has.

If your car wobbles it's probably due to poorly fitted tyres or bent axles the latter being caused by impacts with furniture!

You can buy spare tyres, motors, guides, guide braids and axles from model shops.

Yeah they called it that on their trains too but dropped it when they changed to the S.S.S.P chassis and didn't need to rely on magnets for traction.
