Will they reduce the amount of tax on petrol and car tax or is this another add on charge?

They will raise the tax on fuel and road duty not lower it.

Eventually they will have a bloke at the end of your drive who will make you bend over and give you a rogering from hell with a 14" dong before you drive your car as a sort of pre-paid punishment.

It doesn't sound good although I doubt it will be as bad as people think. After all they've been talking about the 5 gallon for years now and that's not happened yet. IMO I suspect that this will replace the duty on fuel, or road tax. After all if it hits the pockets of motorists too hard then the government that introduce it will loose the next election and they aren't stupid, despite the impression they give Big Smile

B7VP, was that film conspiricy theory about you? biggrin1 biggrin1

By 2009 half of Britiain will probably be under water anyway a_smil17

Not at first, no. But the rates will gradually creep up and up and one day, we'll be every time we reach for the car keys.

Government scum.  How come the US get to drive proper engined cars and we have to make to with lawn mowers?  Pick on the US before you screw us even more!!

Also the third wolrd aka Africa.  South America etc.  Far from innocent before we get picked on.  I 'kin hate Europe with a Capital F!!

Why must our generation feel guilty for doing what everybody else has done for years?

edit - don't bring racism into it!

The trouble is that reports about new ideas like this are normally exaggerated to make them more dramatic, so that they have more impact. Like I said before I've been reading newspaper stories about how the 5 gallon is just around the corner for years now and It hasn't happened yet.

Silver beastie, the Americans may get to drive bigger engined cars but their speed limits and attitiude to speeding is much worse than ours. Same with countries like Australia.

As for your comments about the third world, well they generate considerabley less pollution than developed countries like ours. The United states is responsible for 1/4 of all greenhouse gas emmisions.

While I don't agree with the policy of trying to price people off the roads, or using motorists to prop up the welfare state etc, we do need to find a way to reduce the traffic on the roads. It is getting stupid. I don't even live in a city but I still spend most of my time driving in a long queue of cars doing about 30mph or less.

Hopefully by the time anything like this happens there will be a decent public transport system in place so that the only time I have to use my car is when I'm just driving for the sheer pleasure of it (but maybe that is just wishful thinking)

it feels like victimisation of the driver.  and it is unfair unless you live in a proper city like london/paris/sydney with other transport options like the underground good rail links etc.

scotland is so remote in places it is not as simple as that.

and from the political hatred pointed at drivers, driving for fun should be outlawed as it is not deemed an essential journey.

look at that ridiculous case with the girl being fined for eating an apple whilst driving.  they spent something like 10k on police helicopters etc..

well last time i checked there were still rapists, murderers, paedos' and drug dealers in the world, there was still a war on in Iraq and third world debt has not been abolished so why are they making such a big deal over something like that.  same old story easy target. that's why.

rant over I thank you.

You have the idiots in London to thank for this! They voted Ken back in! That said, in one clear voice, "We (car drivers) are stupid and will pay any toll you see fit".

When will people understand that the government are doing this for money and to con the greenys into voting for them??
