Hello You might be creating yourself a major headache here! There was 2 types of OBC used in the E30. Theoretically an '89 model should have OBC2. This has a lot of functions on it which require extra sensors, not only a wiring nightmare but also expensive. The best bet would be to look at OBC1 which was a digital clock and an outside temp sensor. This might plug straight into the plug for your existing clock, but I cant be 100% certain. I wanted to do the same thing on one of my previous E30's but gave up on the idea. Best of luck for which ever way you decide to go about it. Regards Mark. |

cheers mark,im not too worried about outside temp readings, immobilisation, independant fuel burning heater functions on the obc so dont care about those sensors,i was hoping to fit it and just plug it into the back of the instrument cluster which should give me av speed,av fuel consump, range and limit functions.not even too worried about the remote control pushbutton on the indicator stalk.i am a bit worried about the power supply, will i have to run a wire to the fuse box or fit a new relay for it,where does it get its power from.also hoping to pick up one secondhand with wiring and possibly indicator stalk.was on to bmc motorspares and he said he does get the whole kit in from time to time.if any one could suggest anywhere else it would be appriciated.quoted £750 + vat for new kit,can get obc for £30 but its not much good without the wiring loom.

I have got the service info on these OBC's, I kept it from my days in the workshop. I will see if I can dig it out of the loft and found out the relevant info for you. May take me a few days tho, lol. Cheers Mark. |
