Finally bought an e30 yesterday - for the princely sum of €200. It's an 89 316i 4 door with 160k on it.

The previous owner  is a painter and used it for driving to work and just didn't care about it - I don't think it was clenaed in the 2 years he owned and he didn't bother doing the NCT last year that it was due so he knew it was worth very little.

However there seems to be a good car underneath it all, the engine and clutch are fine, there's no rot or rust except for a few minor scratches on the edges of the door etc and boot was dry and the wheel arches intact. The oil and the water were keeping away from each other so we figured we'd take a punt.

Now the plan is to get it NCT'd and back on the road legally - can anyone recommend a good mechanic who knows their e30s? Northside preferably or Maynooth ( I see there are some listed on the contacts page in Maynooth and Naas but has anyone used them?)

Thanks

John

Best of luck with it John. For that money it would be a sin not to buy it.

@ Richie; I couldn't put it better myself!

@ Stevo; No it's a black one. I think the white one had a vinyl roof which I was weary of. God only know what might be hiding underneath it!

Cheers lads

Cheers techno violet - my girlfriend's going to drive it mainly as she needs to get practice before doing her driving test after having a provisional for 8 years!!

I'm also going to be borrowing it a lot when I feel like a change.
