Well done Ben for organising an interesting morning.

My Car was slightly down on expectations but it would seem BMW are very optimistic on their figures, it would have been nice to get a bit closer to their quoted bhp.

I will put some pics up on my web site, when i get time.

Totally agree, well done Ben for your perseverance as much as anything.

I was also down on power, but then again I am not so sure it was that bad. I measured 255-260 at the wheels.

On the day someone said a 23% loss in the drive train. A 23% loss would make it 331 at the flywheel. I am not sure I agree with this 23% figure though.

My printout says loss = 30, so if that’s 30BHP then that would make is 285-290 at the flywheel. That’s only 10.5%-12% down on BMWs 'book' measurement of 325, so considering it was 32.5c in there and no ram air effect I am pretty happy.

One thing that did interest me though was final RPM. BMW book puts 325BHP at 7600RPM, whereas my 285-260 reading was at 6700. Any ideas?

Does the engine produce its highest reading at 6700 and if so why do BMW state 7600 as the measurement, or were we short changed?

Anyone get a reading on the limiter?

Yeah thanks Ben for inviting me along, it was a great morning.  My car was slightly down from BMW's suggested figure, but it gives me something to build on.

Also thanks for telling me that this forum existed...

Hi guys, busy week! expect pics and video soon!

197.3!!

Sorry about that I am well 'appy!

Thanks for your thanks and sorry you couldn't make it Daz.

Welcome to the board Dan, I thought a busy man like you wouldn't have time to get in here...

I have researched the web and the figure 'transmission loss' is a percentage. I would think that all RWD bmw's will loose roughly the same power, and especially the Z's as they are using exactly the same config. as in ZF 5 speeders & diff units.

maybe someone could email piper as they build these dyno's and can confirm???

Simon I remember looking at your print out after the run and there was a dramatic drop in bhp just after the max revs, also a blip at 5000 revs, mine was a similar curve but without the blip and dramatic drop off, my max came in at 6300 a lot below the bmw rev figure also.

I must admit to being more than a little bit peeved that my figures looked more like a 2.8 than an M, 60-70 bhp down seems a lot, just realised thats an escort turbo diesel engine down from manufactures figures

Take a look at ECIS website.

http://www.ecisbmw.com/dyno_res.htm

ECIS do cold air induction systems for BMWs, but more interestingly they provide dyno evidence of the difference between theirs and stock. Based on this, I think the results we all saw on Saturday were pretty good.

interesting site Simon, the M coupe (S52) shows a similer power curve and power reading as mine. It got the same dramatic drop off in power as yours though. The S52 is only rated at 240bhp though by BMW so his figures are in reality a lot closer to BMW than ours are.

Great to meet all you BMW anoraks.

Super rolling road outing, and good to have confirmation of the power of my E30 M3 (EGO).

Thanks Ben. What have you in store for us next, I wonder!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ian, good to read you in here!

thanks for the email. Regarding sending stuff to you by email, do you have another account (non-AOL/hotmail) etc. that will accept bigger files?

Ditto everyone else with webmail.

If so could you PM me and I'll set up a distribution list (BCC'd of course!)

Ben,

You know my work email address - just send stuff to that, there shouldn't be a problem with file size limits.

Cheers...

Looks like you've been bored at work making new footer images for yourself!!

I hadn't noticed before that you'd put the M style front bumper on - looks good...

If you let me have the tape from the video camera (if it's not a mini DV tape then you'll need to let me borrow the camera too) then I can dump it directly onto DVD, which I can make copies of and we can send out to everyone.

I have been known to post on occasion.

Mini DV is actually fine for me 'cause I've got a mini DV cam myself.  I will be around E.G. for the weekend, so maybe me and my family could pop in and see you and your family - I've not really seen much of young little miss...

I've put Katie on the case.  She'll speak to your Mrs and sort something.   Probably safer than us blokes arranging something, 'cause we'll be in trouble if we get it wrong!
