    Posted: 15-April-2003 at 13:48

As I type my car is stranted about a mile away unable to start. This has happened once before as i was filling up with petrol. Both times I stopped turned the engine off, came back to it and nothing. Not even an attempt from the starter motor to turn over. Both times the engine was hot (nearing 3/4 on the gauge). I was wondering if this happens to the V8 engined cars and if there is a cure for it.It's only happened since I put an induction kit on and mabye the air sensor doesn't like hot air?

Thanks in advance for any advice

If the starter isn't turning it may be the immobiliser.

The V8's had an electronic chip inside the key. If the car does not recognise this chip it will not start.

Have you tried a different key?

It's also very rare for the temperature gauge to go above half way on any 5 series. In six months of owning mine, and after being stuck in traffic frequently it has never gone above half way.

It may be worth checking your thermostat, and also your water pump as the plastic impeller on the original pumps can begin to break up greatly reducing coolant flow in the engine.

It's not a transponder key on my car,it's a 3T BMW system that the remote looks remarkably like the Sigma remote I had on my Golf Gti.The strange thing is that once the temp gauge drops back below half way the car will start.I'll try putting the original airfilter back on as iI didn't have problems before fiiting the induction kit.
