I replaced the sensors, and the car fires up perfectly, and tonight I drove it for a few 100 yds (private lane) problems that came to light were, I need a new indicator stalk (Patrick?) and the exhaust is blowing, so it sounds rather loud. But all the heater buttons work, but the wheels for the temp etc work mainly on the full settings. Brakes were nice, and the idle speed needs adjusting. Plus the underbonnet lamp works! Dodgy bulb, but works! So it's full steam ahead to get the car mot'd now the good weather has started to arrive.

thats great to hear AG.

the fully automatic climate control which I presume your car has is a wonderful system when in full working order. 99% of remaining E23's have faulty systems, as its very complex in design being an electro-vacuum operated system and most mechanics haven't got a clue how it works! sorting mine out caused immense grief but we got there in the end.

when working correctly the system takes its time to respond to changes that you dial into the system. do not expect instant heat/cold adjustments like modern systems.

once you really understand the system you will hear the little motors whirring, opening vents, supplying face level and foot level air to the required temp.

does the fan speed thumb wheel work on all fan speeds or only on full blast? does the defrost button work?

if you have any climate control issues you know who to call.

AG, welcome to the stalk, but cannot remember if that controls h/l too? If it does, mine is intermittent.
