Finally fitted the schrick 272 to the inlet of the m635. Nice. Hit 5000rpm and very nice. The thing takes off and pulls really hard top the redline (currently 6750), engine has a real thrum to it especially above 3500rpm. Idle has remained very civilised which is surprising. Some what expensive but worth it. Don't need to bother with the exhaust cam as apprently these engines flow 130% exhaust vs inlet. Also had the injectors flow tested just to make sure that there were no lean conditions at full load. Professional cleaning yeiled an extra 5% flow on each injector even after I had cleaned them with the wifes jewellery cleaner! Next it's a remap to yield the max power then stick her on the rolling road. Hoping fopr 310 bhp (crank)

Schrick is a very reputable aftermarket camshaft manufacturer for most vehicles. see here www.drschrick.de then english site. For the M635 you can get a 11.0mm lift 272 degree duration cam which replaces the original bmw item at 9.8mm lift and 264 duration. The 272 is not a wild cam by any means but does release top mid range and top end power. Fitting one of these to the inlet will give better breathing at high rpm and hence you get a jump in power above 5000 rpm as the engine breathes in more air and correspondingly pumps in more fuel. Idle is not really affected which would be the case for wilder cams. For the S38 engine (E34 M5 etc) they made a 11.0mm lift 280 degree cam but you can't fit this to our M88 engines (unless you do work to the cam carrier) as the cam base circle is larger and causes fouling problems in the cam carrier. The 280 degree cam does cause a drop off in torque at lower rpms but really makes the engin fly at the top end. Alot of US motors have been modified with a 280 inlet cam and 272 exhaust cam but there engines were all S38's and not M88's. Our engines should give 286 but in reality most would struggle to give this. However with a schrick 272, nice and clean injectors (this was a major restriction in high rpm power for me) and a remap you should easily be able to attain 310bhp. 300bhp max can be had just by remapping. How does your engine run. Does it pull really hard to the redline? miles? etc. PM me if you want more details of what I have done. Schrick cam is not cheap - I paid £563 for one. It's probably the most expensive cam that schrick do! Ian

Here is a link to the schrick pdf file with all there cam specs. This seems to have been lost from the drschrick website for some time now. I would print it out so in case the link is lost again. Happy viewing. www.drschrick.de/images/Katalog072002Englisch.pdf Ian |

Ian: Who did you order the cam through? (...he said, spotting a suitable "282" thingy) Or do Schrick deal direct? |

fast forward motorsport in Malvern. By far the cheapest after several calls to other reputable suppliers. Good quick mail order service Is your 282 for a normal 635? Ian |
