What a superb old truck! I had one of these
maaaaaany years ago, also silver and T registered
but 4 speed manual. It went like hot **** off a shovel,
drank fuel at about 14 mpg but rust was a bit of an
issue. Not as bad as period Jags though.
I remember the central clock being the centre of the
heater blower switch and the mass of red lights that
used to come on when you turned the lights on at
night.
I thought BMW spoiled them with those awful metric
wheels and the softer profile grille they phased in
around A registration. The old Sharknose on 14 inch
spoked rims - classic!

Hey.......I'm almost tempted!

here is the link.

sad old rust bucket, those sills look very scabby.

there are much nicer sharknose 735i's out there, X regd and a few Y regd.

this car should be bought as a parts donor

Those early e23's do appeal to me as well though, something about them.
The highest bidder on that one, didn't they get that blue late e23 that was on a while back?

Yes AG, the fluffy hamsters bought the C regd 735 EX in Bromley I believe. maybe the shark is for parts for the EX?

it would make more sense to buy a C regd 735i as a parts donor though

But these must all be rusty old knackers by now?
Millions of miles, dodgy electrics, water leaks into
the boot etc etc. Don't see what difference it makes
what year it is, the last E23(?) was made about 20
years ago. But you don't see any of the old
sharknose models about and look far, far better than
the later ones which look a bit lame. Those wheels
were a BMW copy of the Alpina CSL type wheel -
brake dust was a problem (esp. the way I drove it!)
and chrome arches hid the rust nicely.

I think mine was GYR 135T and it originally came
from Park Lane. Aaah, nostalgia..........

Look at it. Doesn't it deserve to be saved? My
neighbours would evict me from the village (Wicker
Man style) if that turned up!
That colour, those wheels, that sharky demeanour.
Buy it for £20, spend £500 and it's a classic you
could cruise around in. I bet the performance still
stacks up today.
Mine used to achieve an indicated 130 at the rtev
limiter (6500 rpm ). When you
backed off to 100 mph and booted it again, it would
give a puff of smoke. Well, more of a cloud.

I bought it in about 1985/6 for £600 from a garage in
Thatcham and gave it absolutely no mercy.

It probably doesn't hurt to blow the cobwebs out once in a while. Having seen the needle briefly touch and go past "140" on test in my Six, I reckon the E23 should be able to do something similar.

Just make sure you've got a full tank of fuel first....

And your AA card :-)

You could recline in your faded Velour cocoon and
admire the luxury as you wait for the breakdown
truck!

Faded? You mean that stuff actually fades?

I thought it just got itchier as time went on, 'cos it picked up more fleas....

Hi Von Paulus,

Thats a very famous military name you have there. Are you related to Field Marshall Von Paulus of Stalingrad fame/infamy?

Great memories of your 733i you bought in 1985. that car has stuck in your mind for 20 years.

I think I had a grotty 1600GT Capri II in 1985 - not a memorable car in any way, except people kept wanting to buy it!

What other great cars followed after the 733i?

Not Von Paulus, but very distantly from Hasso Von
Manteuffel (the Von means 'from' and is the German
equivalent of 'Sir' I guess.) who was another
General. Somewhere there's a picture of him and his
adjutant in the back of a truck on the Russian front
smoking a fag.

The reason Oxford and Cambridge were very lightly
bombed in WW2? Because most of the German
high command were educated there! Another bit of
useless info.

1985 - fresh off the plane, needed a cheap banger -
that was it! But back in Ze Fatherland, the E23 was
about as desirable as a kick up the **** and had a
terrible reputation - particularly the early cars and the
early 745i.
