Hello people. i ave just bought an e30 325. i had a friend check it out and he said it was a very good buy. The engine is standard but i would like to start getting more power. I'm going to do the exhaust and airfilter then a chip, i was told i could get about 12bhp more and that there is only 1 sort of chip! does anybody know if this is correct?

I then want to strip the head down and get it fully gas flowed and modified etc etc and replace the noisy tappets. Does anybody know where i can send the head or if i can sort of part ex it and pay the extra. I would like to find  a specialist if possible?

is it possible for us to scan our car pictures onto this website for us all to see?

Hi Chris

Not sure about there being only one chip (unless it's the one I'm thinking of!) but try talking Ray West of Ray West Tuning at Thruxton (sorry don't have the number handy). I've had chats with him regarding my E30 M3 and he seems to be a person others recommend.

Try and get a custom chip (there is a company called AMD in the UK) for the best gains but don't expect huge gains from it alone. Make sure you do the head work first so that the chip can take account of the imprevements.

You could also consider the 2.7 litre upgrade using 525e parts. I'm sure others could tell you more about this though.

try this link, there are more companies listed that may help.....

The links aside, it's a pretty useful website generally for all motoring issues.

Police arrested two kids yesterday, one was drinking battery acid, the
other was eating fireworks. They charged one and let the other one off.

Hi Chris

If you have noisy tappets, how many miles has the engine done? If loads; ie above 100K or so, or you are not certain that servicing has been by the book or better, don't chip it as you'll just blow the engine.

If you want more power, do it properly and start with a very sound low mileage engine, gearbox, clutch and back axle, check the brakes - and then get an insurance quote! Make sure you are sitting down though when you get it......  Not to mention making sure that the body is 100% sound, front suspension joints are good and the rear bushes are OK.

Don't even think about not telling the insurance company what you have done as that would be irresponsible and very antisocial..and a criminal offence as you will in effect have no insurance cover!

If you just want a faster 0-60, change the diff ratio and speedo for one from a 320. This willl give you less mph per 1000 revs in all gears, and improve the acceleration no end. The 325 is tuned for economy as well as a quiet cruise, lower the diff ratio and it will outdrag most things!

There is no point in tuning for top end power that gives you 120 mph+ as unless you have your own track, you can't use it.

Lastly, be cynical, never believe advertising claims/advice from mates, as extra horsepower is not that simple as just doing one thing...it needs to be a progression of several things, and that is costly. It may be cheaper to buy an M3 and be done with it.

Enjoy...

I didn't think AMD did beemers any more? Wish they did though as I live nearly 10 minutes away from them

There's always the 2.7 conversion routes, you know the one, bottom end from a 525e etc Good for 200 bhp easy peasy.

Or you could buy my E30 M3 (blatant plug) for less than £6k... everything you could want straight off the shelf.

That would leave me able to buy the sport evo and we'd both be happy
