Just come back from brighton, 185 miles.no hassle, apart from dodgy springs in drivers seat!Oh yes+ having to wear earplugs,yes,seriously,i did!,cos back box is 'past its best'.

Just wondered what it takes to fill it up?i put £40 in+ it only read half full-is this correct?Only 1/4 tank showing now!

Only thing i dislike, is finding an 'egg' on inside of tyre 30 miles from home!its got silly metric (390?!?) tyres on, are they difficult to find, or just expensive? Failing that, do other imperial wheels fit on?

Probably seems like im full of silly questions, but its 15yrs since my last e23 728 vanished in the night!

Welcome Simon, pics soon please mate. We love your Henna Red 735i manual. Mark also has a Henna 735i called the Red Baron.

Euro Car Parts (ECP) are currently offering new rear silencers for £45 while stocks last. that is cheap.

The tank takes 22gallons, so £40 for half a tank is about right if the tank was empty.

tip those 390mm rims into the local canal. Fit 15" x-spoke rims from an E34/E32 with 225/60/15 tyres. Andy G has a set for sale with very nice tyres in Hertford.

I have fitted 16" E38 rims to my E23 with 225/55/16 tyres.

See pics of my rims in my posts in this section from a few weeks ago.

Keep the questions coming!

Simon
I can also supply you with a back box!
Pm me, and we can meet up, or sort something out whenever you feel the need to!
Metric tyres are really expensive for what they offer, so your best bet is to dump them and get some imperial wheels and tyres rom another e34/28/32 etc.

Excellent.thanks.

I did wonder about those wheels, when i saw ad.didn't stop me though!I will have to pm andy.

I left car in a bodyshop earlier, they are pricing up a door respray+ wheel arch repair for me.i'm more than a little scared!

Im also wondering about putting car in for service, ive got all the lights on now+ wondered what it will cost,rather than the usual do it myself. also the ! in triangle,between lights is flashing.im miles away from car at mo,and wondered if that was serious,or not.

If you do buy Andy's rims he will take your old rims in p/x, saving you a trip to the canal

Andy's rims will look like this

you can also fit 16" rims from the E38 7 series

you need to devour the Owners Handbook - have you got one?

the flashing CHECK warning could be something very minor. Don't Panic Mr. Mannering!

On the Check Control panel all the red lights should come on when you press the Test button. they should all go out when you release the button again.

when you turn on the ign the Brake Lights warning will light up until you touch the brake pedal, then it should go out. if not, you have a duff brake bulb. its a good system.

You can do the service yourself and reset the lights by shorting between pin 7 in the diagnostic socket and earth for 3 seconds for normal service and 12 seconds for full service.

I have a picture of the two socket types somewhere, E23's are 'D' shaped. Pin map is also on inside of plastic cover if it's still on your car.

Buy my 735i and have a complete car for parts. Wheels and tyres are good (x5). 205/70/V14's on imperial alloys.

Whole car £125.00 on fleabay item 4537478401

Ok. I've given this a good staring at and I'm no further forward. Is the comment in German as well as the check display?

I dont know how much yet, he's trying to give me a good deal though.Im intrigued by £20 wheelarches, have to investigate them, to see if i can just use small part.sills+ jacking points looked ok, but it was pouring with rain, + being a welder, i thought 'how bad can it be?'may live to regret that.....

The car drove really well,but i was painfully aware of how cack the tyres were, but still enjoyed it. gear changing was sweet,fairly light clutch, no judder/slip,or hassle.really don't know why i didn't do this sooner!Cant really understand why people think its gonna be a handful in the wet, try driving an xjs- sideways+ more.Anything else has got to be less erm, 'lively'?

Thanks for linking me up with forum too!

"Bremslicht" = brake lights

"Rucklicht" = tail lights

"Kennzeichenlicht" = low beams (I think)

"Abblendlicht" = rear licence plate lights

"Motorol" = Engine oil

"Kuhlwasser" = coolant

"Waschwasser" = windscreen wiper fluid

Identical to the E24's Check Control.

Problem solved, methinks.....

Horsetan, great Avatar.

But no worries, both my displays are in English.

I was more concerned with deciphering the attached message.
