Luxor Beige is a lovely colour - my E32 is that colour. its really an E34/E32 colour, so your E28 must be one of the very last built. I don't think Luxor means Gold, i think its just named after the desert sands & great pyramids around Luxor, Egypt. maybe

Its a shame the sharknose styling has had to go.. as much to do with encap figures for frontal impact injury as it is with aerodynamics.

Anyway.. the finest E28 you are ever likely to see for sale has had its details land on my desk.
It is actually a Syntner prepared Alpina B2.8 in Henna and is absolutely unmarked inside and out. The vendor wants around 5k and if I had it I would buy it myself.. this car would win any concours and at 12,000 miles is virtually unused.. it really is frustrating for me when relatively so little cash is still just too unafordable.. but then thats life!

£5k is a bargain for a mint ultra low mileage E28 Alpina, it should sell in a jiffy. rarer than an M5 E28 and they fetch that easily.

Hi chaps, I've got an e28 528i too;

I had the photographer from TotalBMW mag round on Thursday (24th), article on car should be in mag around July or August.

Let me know what you think of her, it's taken me three years to get her on road, and yes they are 8 series alloy's, the really wide ones on the rear and they work well...however I can still manage to smoke em up!

thats a fab car jonathan, wheels set it off a treat, doive love the colour of yours, your paint work has flecks of silver mixed in the paint to make it slightley perlesent... slight change of colour in different light from gold to silver.

Jonathan that 528i is fantastic looking! Saw an E28 at the scottish meet today with the full shadow line trim, never really liked it as I'm a bit of a chrome man myself (meaning I like chrome, I'm not made of chrome - autoglym away please). Anyway I digress. It was a white M535i and the shadow line looked superb, I think it must suit certain colours like the white and very much suits your black car! Superb.

Philip my car was a december 87 build, wasn't registered until feb 88 so as you say one of the very last. Been told it could be just about the last 525e to leave the factory, something I must get checked out to see where it came in the grand scheme of things. Was the luxorbeige an option on all E28's or only on the eta Lux models? I've seen one other on ebay but never laid eyes on another on the road.

Must spend a few weeks sorting the paintwork on the car, its a bit dull and lifeless but nothing a nice sunny week and arms like tree trunks won't cure. I like my cars to shine.

Johnathan,

Thats the finest E28 I've seen for ages. Is it just for shows, or do you use it as intended by BMW?

Doive,

Luxor was available in the BMW paint range from around 1987 I think. replaced Bronze-Beige maybe??? I've only ever seen very late E30 plus E32 & E34 in Luxor.

Derek, God rest him, would have knocked points off at Harewood for an air freshener of any sort.
.. I used the same principle to separate two otherwise identically mint E30's.. the Magic Tree lost the owner the trophy that summer!

Yes, I'm sorry about the air freshner Nick. I did take it out for photo shoot you'll be pleased to hear!

It's a day to day car, I'm driving it to Le Mans in June, track daying it at Donington in July and Nurburgring in August. I will be taking it to Gaydon and Tatton Park later in year though.

Had it rolling roaded at Jon Noble Motorsport in Chesterfield last Wednesday, down on bhp at moment as distributor weights and springs are worn so over 4000rpm ignition is all over the place, however projected power output is 200-210 at flywheel. I've got an E12 inlet manifold to fit yet, which flows alot better than standard one. That should help a little too .

Thanks for comments chaps, I appreiciate it.

Jonathan, who was the photographer?
Nice e28 that, looks good in Black, is it Diamond Black? Did you get the front spoiler with it, or buy it aftermarket?
Nick, I saw that an e28 B9 was advertised in TBMW the other month, tha had a low mileage too, around 30k, and in red. That was up for 5.5k as well. Shame it's 'only' a B2.8 though, but probably rarer than the B9's!
I hope to have mine ready in a few weeks or so, so that'll be another B9 back on the road.

Jonathan Cox   Do you have any handling problems with those alloys, I have them on My E34 and have often thought about changing the original's and sticking them on the E28.

Here they are on the E34

These are the original metrics.

Jonathon,

Fantastic car!! I bet you're very proud of it!! I certainly would be and those 8 series wheels set it off very nicely. What width are they at the back? Are they 17's and did you have to modify the arches?

Philip

All my bits came off eBay or Mats Kinnby (Clear indicators) absolute huge pain in the backside to do, the easiest being the rear bumper which was the only thing to bolt straight on. I really need a proper M535i front lower valance to fit the front bumper in properly as I had modify the bodywork to get it on!

M3AG, the photographer was Craig Pusey, I've known him for a couple of years through the BM Club.

The car was resprayed BMW Jet Black, it used to be Diamond Black, however I prefered the solid black and also the colour match would be better if it was damaged in any way. The Alpina front spoiler was bought new from BMW, I had to wait a year for Alpina to make a batch then another year for the boot spoiler. They're not cheap either! I'm not trying to replicate an Alpina car, it's just that I like the bodykit and the car looks better with it rather than without, and I'm just not keen on the M535i kit at all.

Jamie(e39)528i, yes the wheels are hard to find. I was just lucky really, stumbled across them in a BM breakers yard in Norfolk (Emray BMW I think)whilst buying a fuel pump for my E30 318iS. They had come off a burntout car and were in a right state, more of a brown than silver. I sent them to Pristine Wheels in Milton Keynes, the only prob was that they couldn't diamond cut the outer rim, so I had to have them blasted and powder coated.

SilverBMW528, I don't suffer any handling probs at all, plenty of grip, I've poly bushed all front and rear ends to cope with wheels, had to get them from Australia though as no company in this country does them!!

e28silverBMW, the rear wheels are 9.5Jx17, the tyres are 245x40x17. The arches had to be rolled quite a lot, but this didn't matter as car was being painted any way. Then I fitted M535i wheel arch extensions. M3AG
