From the 70's BMW engines were capable of running on unleaded (I think to meet the Californian emmission regs). If you have motronic on your car, I think it will sort out timing automatically - one of the 'experts' will confirm that for you in the next post I'm sure!

never mind mark,at least you know that your car will run ok on unleaded. never get sucked into add on extras for your classic. after all it cost millions of german dosh to develop the cars and not a few quid to think up a idea that sounds good that might make millions....

you're not alone though Mark, I know plenty of people that have fitted similar items to their classics.

There will always be one. This time, the star of the show is you You should be able to run perfectly tolerably on: LRP Shell Optimax Super Unleaded (anybody's) or even proper 4-star leaded if you have a filling station near you. Just click the link below my signature pic. Edited by Horsetan |

Agreed. This is another classic automotive con. "Sohlman" fitted a similar cylinder to his E24 ages ago. It had absolutely no effect at all, other than (probably) crapping up his fuel lines..... so he junked it. |

hi mark, do you have problems with pinking on the car, if you use unleaded in your car put some lead replacement into the tank now and then, bmw heads use harder valve seats in the head so the likely chances of the valves burning out are rare. the chances are you would have to run the car over a few thousand miles before any damage was done if at all. some old classic cars run only on leaded petrol, old 4 star. mainly old jags.these had softer valve seats that when unleaded was used it wore away the valve stems thus causing oil to be burnt. if you have pinking then you can retard the ignition slightly to compesate...

Are you currently using LRP Mark? Have you tried unleaded or super unleaded? As Rob says, don't muck about with the car's fuelling, they need the fuel pressure to be constant and at the original factory pressure. the car may run really rough if you fit a gadget into the pressured fuel lines.

hi mark, fuel pump is at the rear, electric. above the rear axle. what do you mean cheaper fuel??? do you mean unleaded. dont forget any device you fit might upset the fuel presure, so you might have to increase the presure at the regulator in the engine bay. you can run these cars on unleaded without putting ad ons. mark the fuel presure regulator is not ajustable on these cars. unless you buy a aftermarket regulator. take that gismo back and get your money back....
