Topic: why has a post been removed? Posted: 04-April-2005 at 03:19 |
There was a post in the 7 section, entitled "my car on fleabay", which on page 3 of the post did get a little touchy. After I left it at 11.20pm it had calmed down, and conversatiuon was gathering apace, albeit slightly off topic. Can someone please tell me why it was removed please?
Cheers AG |

M3AG Just looking through my mail and looks like a rather heated slanging match. Can't be bothered to get angry even if people do slag certain cars off. Most of the time I think it is what cars are about at the time you're buying. I was looking for a 535i but nothing I could afford, but my current car came up therefore bought it. The way I see it a BMW is still a BMW if its 2 yr old or 22 yr old. they're all enjoyable in their own way. Hope others may perhaps learn from this (but probably not!) Paul |

Unfortunately there are a few people who seem to use the forum to slag off other peoples cars. The 'it's not worth much so it must be rubbish' brigade. It would be a good day for the forum if they either shut up or shoved off!

I agree with both Peter and E28's comments - you're right. A BMW is a BMW and it's worth doesn't matter. The same goes for an enthusiast being an enthusiast, and we should all try to get along whenever. However - do remember it works in the other direction too. I was baited for owning cars that people classed as being of 'snob value' when those that have met me will know that's simply not the case. It's difficult to ascertain perception and tone on forums, and I think it's wrong to have a pop at anyone's car. It's their pride and joy and they worked for it, no matter how old or new it is. Mutual respect goes a long way. I didn't see the thread by the way! Edited by Coasting |

I appreciate what you're saying guys, and agree wholeheartedly with your comments, it was indeed getting a little heated, but we managed to calm it down somewhat, I just wondered what happend on the topic after I went to bed that warranted it to be removed?

M3AG I wonder whether the moderators took action when they were asked to as it looked quite heated. Paul |

hi all, it was me that called the mods to step in to calm things down a bit, as it happend m3ag turned the subject around so there was a discusion and not a slanging match. the mods deleted some of the posts as it could of offended a lot of people as you alrightly say this site is for discusion on bmws, we all have a passion on them so we all share a common interest.

I saw the posts via the many emails as it got quite heated. I just let it go over my head especially when you can look outside your window on a sunny evening as the sun sets on your car and even though its nearly 20 yrs old, still shines and turns heads!! Makes all the hard work, sweat and tears pay off and gives you a massive grin!! Paul |

Unfortunately this 'my cars better than your car' issue is the reason why a lot of people don't like BMW drivers! I'm not saying it's a justified view, but there is definately a perception that people who drive new BMWs think they are better than people who drive Fords for example. Like I said I don't think it's a fair view but people like those talked about give some idea of where that view may have come from.

some excellent posts guys, now we just need the mods to clarify the deletion as AG has requested. coasting. your arch nemesis who is now banned from the board was also slagging your car on the basis that its a CHAVs dream car, got no class, council estate car etc etc ad infinitum. as others have said many times lets hope those that hate other peoples choice of BMW simply buzz off and leave the rest of us to enjoy our cars, and enjoy nattering about them. the 1st law of Trolls states: If you ignore Trolls they go away.

D12TRE I've dreamt of M5 ownership for the past 12 years, still keep dreaming, nearly had my chance of M6 ownership 8 yrs ago but was getting married at the time (and had a few grand in the bank for that purpose), but the wife had other ideas. Ended up getting a 84 320i for £1000 and was a complete pain in the backside. Still, had to keep the better half happy as they say. Paul |

Alas, he has returned under another name and is at his old tricks again. Check out the 330Ci v E46 M3 thread if you want proof. Why he can't go and get a proper life I have no idea.... |

coasting, are you 100% sure its the same guy? Plenty of clues in his posts. He has also aggravated the 7 series regulars. Flame wars, insults, slagging peoples cars etc etc do we want to have that type of board? |

The same post format...the same writing style....everything. Then he started the "childish" comments - virtually identical to those he posted last time. I wouldn't care but he'd soon be able to come back under his original name I'd have thought! I just don't see what anyone gets out of it. It's so pointless. |
