could someone please explain what its for?i thought it was for help and meeting new people, when you had a problem you could ask other members etc for advice, that you could use this forum for both fun banter and advice,so you can join in with meets and events, when you start to have fun on here seems that other people take the hump and the topic gets closed,i stopped comming on here before because of the bitchyness, seems you cant have a joke, for example thread that got closed in scottish section," this site boring"we start having a banter on it and the person that asks is this site boring complains!!!! you cant win,so far i havnt had any advantage on joining the club apart from advice on this site which i thought i would pay to go towards costs of this site,to be honest i dont know if i will bother re newing my membership when it is up,im finding people getting very petty on this site,as long as its not offensive banter towards other members i dont see the harm in having a laugh.  rant over but it does cheese me off that folk just cant get on and stop being petty!!

I agree, and I'm the one that closed it, and I'm sure caused some of your other complaints.

If a topic descends into arguments, it gets closed.

I thought the thread was rather amusing, unfortunately others didn't.

Best Wishes

Nigel

Have to agree with the sometimes personal insults that get banded about on some threads, but the mods do their bst, and terminate it before it gets out of hand.

Hang on in there Mell, don't let it cause you problems, most people do respond well with an answer or light hearted comment.

I have stopped visiting as often as I did in my first weeks of joining.

Not because of the lack of good content on the site though, because I do think it has a lot of information and 99% of it's users are thoroughly decent people who try to help or engage in "good humoured" banter.

Instead, I've found that there are a 1% of people who are determined to ruin it for others.

I still maintain that the forum has an anti-new-BMW angle to it and that I'm getting rather tired of hearing people say that "new BMW's this, new BMW's that".

Even if I thought that someone's older BMW was a pile of dog's whatsit - I wouldn't flame it on a public forum.  Why do they do it?

I can only conclude it is with a view to baiting.

Why can't everyone just step back a bit before commenting, think about how their comments might be viewed by others, think that people in possession of a vehicle are likely to be fond of it if they frequent this type of forum - and basically just learn from it!

I've been on a club meet with members of this forum and it was a superb day.  That's because people took each other as equals, which everyone is, and purely went for the drive and seeing other cars be they old or new.

I commend the Northeast Region for that - and just wish a few other regions could allow this sort of friendly spirit to transcend the web based forums.

Check the Northeast Region forum out - how many bickering or baiting threads are there?

None that I know of.

Speaks volumes.

Cheers to all and let's start getting on.  If you find it boring then it's really very simple - go find something to do.

some people seem to take this forum far too seriously, its meant to be entertaining and a source of help, does it matter if threads go off on a tangent, really?   everyone does their fair share to try and attract membership, be it hand out pre-printed club flyers (i prowl the car parks lol), get discounts or try to organise events - seems to me that the people who do the organising get their due recognition, but some brilliant ideas get tossed by the wayside because the chief organiser isn't interested or won't get their five minutes of fame because it was someone elses suggestion

I particularly liked the "if you dont like it, dont read it" quote.

After all, there is always the Unsubscribe yourself option in the emails.

On with the banter, long live pointless rabble!

It would appear that there is also a confliction of senses of humour, incomprehension of types of wit, comments made in anger (apologies to any that have recieved these from me!).

But I think that this will always be the nature of a forum.

Is deliberate baiting an offence? if so what constitues this? bit grey this area...

I love a wind up as much as the next man/woman but how do you define this?

Coasty - dangerous word "boring" I got well roasted for it recently!

on another point: I was considering joining the club, but having my details published in the magazine puts me right off. is this still done?

I have to admit I never thought it was a bad as you all make it sound. OK so every now a then a thread gets closed down, but it doesn't happen all the time and as long as people don't start getting offensive and follow the forum rules then there isn't a problem is there?

Mell, I've been involved in some fairly open and potentially heated debates recently and there has been no issue with the thread being closed. Maybe you Scotts just get too fired up! Big Smile

I've just had a look at the offending thread oh the Scottish forum.

It's very difficult to make out what is being said since Praktisk has edited all his threads.

TBH I'm not sure why people got fired up, if you don't like the forum then don't use it. I find it very useful for technical info, both BMW and other things, and sharing views on issues such as the election, speed cameras etc.

If people don't think the threads are interesting then start some new ones.

Personally I don't use the chat room because that side of the website or the internet for that matter doen't interest me.

If you can't take it, don't give it!

If we all liked the same things, it would be boring. Variety is the Spice of life...

There was a time where it got really bitchy and petty,we are all intittled to our opinions but some choose to share theres a bit to often and end up being offensive,i agree with some topics going off key but when its a topic which doesnt hold much substance i dont see the problem. As i said we can all share our opinons but it doesnt mean we are right and have to take the hump about it,i guess with the difference in ages on here some like meaning less banter and some think its childish, but as said before you dont have to read it or join in or be offensive.read something which does intrest you.
