Stick to a good restored CS. The design is a lot older than the 6-series, but an M6 is not that much quicker than a LHD CSL. The CSL is rather fragile though, so for more regular use go for a CSi with 200 bhp and fuel injection. These are manual only, easier cruising with a CSA auto, but a bit slower. If you want to tune it a triple carb engine is easier than the Bosch D-jet.

Good luck with your search.

Having owned and restored (rephrase that: restoration NEVER stops with an E9) my 2800CS for the last few years I agree that the sixes are nice, the M3's great but there is nothing like taking something from nothing to driving a head turner, no matter how slowly!! is good for the soul.

Can't beat the lines of an E9. The CSL was recently voted favourite BMW of all times. I have had four of them, the latest one a 3.2 left-hooker, which is nearly finished after 5 years of restoration. Most time spent on seraching the right parts.
