I asked my local scrappers how much they charged to take my old car, as I needed rid of it. They said nowt if I drove it to them.

Thankfully, after a long time trying to give it away, it was re-homed, and I now know it's been cared for, and not left to rust and be broken apart as I had spent a lot of money on it. I and didn't want some scrap yard ripping it apart cashing in on a free meal, when there wasn't much wrong with it.

It will be lovely to see the old girl again sometime.

I know what you mean. A mate of mine has a 1989 G
reg Mazda 626 2 litre Estate. Taxed until June and
MOT's for 6 months, he wants 50 for it. I used it
today to shift some junk and it goes/steers/stops
really well. He shows Alsatians and it's ideal from
shipping hounds about - thankfully it doesn't stink of
Dogs
They bought a 1993 Volvo 940 Turbo Estate to
replace it. Car was 600, to which they'll add their
10'000 number plate. "New Money Shouts, Old
Money Whispers".

I cannot believe a working car is worth next to
nothing - hence Hiabboy will have (another) fully
working 735iExec at the weekend!
Lets see if any of the other forum geezers snap it
up..........?

Good luck with the sodding thing...........

Considering it took us a full year to sell a 1989 VW Jetta GL for 350 - and that only possible on e-Bay - this is hardly surprising.....

Hmmm. With the advent of companies like Yes "We'll
lend money to almost any scumbag" Car Credit, it
seems that the majority of banger buyers are those
who are too low down the food chain even to get
credit.
Me? I've gone through the expensive car phase,
come out the other side intact and now drive cheap
bangers.
Example; I bought a 1989 F reg 730i Manual in June
2004 with 204'000 miles. It's now done another
16'000 miles. 6000 of those miles were at 40p/mile
with work so really, the car owes me nothing. In fact,
the car is not only paid for twice over, that includes
the tax discs and the insurance and I've STILL made
about 400.

Suddenly, spending 18'000 on an 18 month old
320d Touring seems like a very daft thing to do.

Chavs, basically.

...which lends credence to my long-held theory that old cars make sense
