Mrs D's 316i was in for test this morning.  All was fine except they picked up on the fact that the drivers side rear door external handle is a bit temperamental - probably just through lack of use by us and previous owners.

They just want to be able to open the door from the outside (it opens fine all the time from the inside), so there is no re-test fee or anything.

Does anyone know if this is a legitimate reason for withholding the certificate?

I'll be posting a seperate thread on the 3 series board for hints about adjusting or lubricating the mechanism.

In case of emergency and someone needs to open it from outside; there may be childlocks active stopping it from opening from the inside.  I assume....

Fey

Its not the childlocks, it actually opens fine from the inside.  Its the external handle that is causing the problem and I reckon its just simply down to lack of use and lube.

Sorry; I meant that they probably made an issue of it not opening from the outside in case of an emergency where it had to be opened from the outside due to the person inside being trapped/unconscious or unable to open it from the inside due to something like a childlock being on.

I'm getting confused just typing this explanation of my earlier post!!!
